BBQ, Bikes and Bears

An Alpha and Omega Spin Off Story

by Lisa Oliver

It's been almost twenty years to the day that Clive lost the love of a shifter who'd found his true mate. Now, he plans to celebrate the 4th of July with beer, barbecue, and maybe some hot company. As president of the Epitaphs MC, he's never short of company, but when his musing about his previous love takes a melancholy turn, he decides a bike ride is the cure for the depressing cobwebs in his brain.

Roy Carmichael is one of the new police officers in Orlando, and as such, has been stuck on traffic duty on a public holiday. With only a few minutes left to go on his shift, he's dreaming about grilled meat and maybe a swim to cool off after being stuck in a car on a hot day. His dreams are interrupted when a bike roars past him, going far faster than the speed limits allow. Roy loves a good chase and figures it’s the perfect end to a slow shift.

One sniff and Roy's bear knows he's found his forever, but between Roy's job and Clive's, mated life isn't going to be easy. The Black Skulls MC is sniffing around and wants a merger with the Epitaphs, and one of the Epitaph members isn't happy that Roy's bounced into Clive's life. Fireworks are guaranteed.

The first 6000 words of this story was published for free on Stormy Glenn's ManloveFantasies blog. A further 30,000 words have been added to complete this book. Readers familiar with my Alpha and Omega series will remember Clive from book one - The Biker's Omega. Deeper understanding of the secondary characters would be gained from reading that book first, but isn't strictly necessary.

This is an MM true mates story between a rugged bear shifter and a human who wonders if he's getting too old for some of the crap going on around him. Intimate situations and some violence warnings apply.

Excerpt:

“When Jules first left, I joined the Marines. I was there ten years and the pain dulled somewhat. I convinced myself I was better off without him. But when I came back here and joined the club, it was like it all came back again. It wasn’t that I missed Jules, I think I was just so damn jealous. Jules met someone, and they knew in an instant they were going to be together for centuries. I felt like this dumb schmuck human who was just warming Jules’s bed until the real deal came along. I was pissed off. Angry. Oh, I know he cared about me but when his mate showed up I was last week’s news. He walked away from everything we’d built together to be with this perfect stranger and they had this connection and….”

Clive shook his head and bit his bottom lip. When he looked up Roy could see a real sincerity in his eyes. “After all these years, I think I finally understand why he did it.”

About the Author

Lisa Oliver's first fiction book was The Reluctant Wolf, book one in the Cloverleah series. Since then she's written more than ninety other titles spanning a number of different series including Bound and Bonded, Stockton Wolves, Balance, The God's Made Me Do it, City Dragons, The Necromancer's Smile, and the Alpha and Omega series. A huge fan of the true mate trope, Lisa's books are all paranormal, all M/M (although a few M/M/M have crept in too) and all have an HEA.

When not writing, Lisa can be found with her nose in a book. Her adult children and grandchildren have found the best way to get her off the computer is to offer her chocolate.
