No Mate Of Mine

(Bound and Bonded 5)

by Lisa Oliver

Bound and Bonded Book 5
(Can be read as standalone)
Everyone at the Bound and Bonded Club, and the Washington Pack believes that Roger has never wanted to have a mate because he is too busy having fun with the variety of subs the club has as members. No one knows that Roger did in fact meet his mate, ten years before. Problem was, the boy was literally that, only twelve years old, and Roger left him alone thinking his mate would be safe in his home pack until he was ready to settle down. He was wrong.
Cameron Slater didn't want to be born an Omega wolf, especially not in a homophobic pack. When he was kicked out after his first shift, he spends two years on the streets before being taken in someone calling himself Master Donoghue. Four years later and Cam was wishing for death - anything would be better than having to service his sadistic Master and his sick friends.
A rescue mission, rabid vampires with a taste for Omega blood, and an overly possessive sub are just some of the obstacles standing in the way of an HEA for these two men. Is being Fated Mates enough to withstand the storm, or will Cam be dead before he and Roger have a chance to build a life together?
Warnings - this is a gay shifter true mate story.  Includes BDSM references although no actual scenes, reference to past abuse, a sweet Alpha wolf who will do anything for his mate, and a poor Omega too afraid of his own shadow half the time and who just wants acceptance.

“Cam. Cam. Are you all right?  Can you move at all?”

Okay, that wasn’t Donoghue. In fact the voice didn’t belong to anyone that Cam knew. What the hell?  He tried to push himself up, aware that there was more than one person in the room with him, but with the darkness he couldn’t make out any features of the faces. He got the impression of three men, big men…no, not men.  Their scent hit his nose. These mountains were shifters.

Cam’s body trembled with fear and there was nothing he could do to stop it. Shifters, wolf shifters meant more pain.  Not just the physical stuff that Cam had endured almost every day for four years, but the psychological as well. To be rejected by those who were supposed to protect you…nope, Cam wasn’t going to go there, his mind would break.

“Please,” he said, wincing at the raspy nature of his voice.  “Please, I don’t know who you are, or what you want, but you have to go.”

“Not without you little wolf.”

One of the mountain men came closer, and Cam could see the man’s harsh face was scarred.  Although Cam didn’t think the guy was an Alpha, he was big, scary and would hate what Cam represented.

“You don’t understand. I’m an Omega. Please just leave me,” Cam said desperately. He pulled away as far as he could, but he felt the lashes in his back split and the smell of blood tinged the air. The scarred man pulled back, but not far enough in Cam’s opinion. His wolf was doing a fucking happy dance as the scent of the wolf shifter’s invaded his tiny space and Cam fought his change yet again.

“Get Roger in here,” the scarred man said, and another man took off out the door. Cam didn’t know what was going on – why after all these years would any wolves hunt him out. He’d left the pack, never crossed the territory of another pack. He totally immersed himself in the human world and fuck it all – he did his best to be the most obedient sub in existence. Why weren’t these guys leaving him to die?

His wolf didn’t want to die, of course he wouldn’t. Stupid wolf probably thought the huge shifters in his room had come for a playdate. But Cam knew better. Wolves could be all protective and lovey dovey with a female omega wolf. A male one was a totally different story. Cam knew he was cursed from the day he’d shifted. Knew he was gay and he had done his best to fit into a world where that wasn’t a problem. Now his wolf wanted to come out, shift and be at one with animals that would tear him to pieces.

Fighting the change, frantically trying to control his wolf who seemed to feed on the presence of others of his kind, Cam twisted his head backwards and forwards, his eyes clenched tight. He could feel the hair on his arms get longer, his teeth didn’t fit in his mouth.  Cam had never had this much trouble controlling his wolf before and he cried out, “No!” trying to yell his wolf into submission.

Suddenly Cam was airborne as he was held in two strong arms and surrounded by what appeared to be a strong chest. “You can’t shift here little wolf, it’s not safe,” the most sexy voice in the world said. The relief, the way his wolf just subsided under his skin – it was instant and so freaking fast that Cam gasped. And that’s when his nose was filled with the most amazing scent in the world – vanilla with undertones of deep, dark chocolate. Despite being scared, and in incredible pain, Cam’s cock reacted and he struggled to get free, knowing with everything that he was, that his life would be forfeit if his savior smelled his arousal.

“Settle.” There it was again, Cam just relaxed. Why did this incredible smelling shifter have so much power over him?

“You’re amazing,” he said in a hushed whisper, hoping his face could express the words that failed him. Roger just grinned and quirked an eyebrow.

“No more than you deserve, precious,” he said as he moved further up over Cam’s body until Cam was face to face with a solid, dark red, dripping cock.

This was something that Cam did know how to deal with – bigger than he usually had shoved in his face before, but so much better in every way.  Cam took a deep breath as the smell of aroused male, vanilla and dark chocolate hit his nostrils in every delightful way, and bent his head up, nuzzling at Roger’s hair free balls. Groaning as the full force of Roger’s scent hit his nostrils, Cam opened his mouth and suckled on the ball sac.

Roger planted one hand firmly on the headboard, the other still resting lightly around his swollen shaft. He had fully planned to feed his cock directly into the mouth in front of him, but it seemed his mate had some sense of initiative. And Roger was hardly going to complain as his ball sac was loved on in every possible way.

Soft gentle kisses, long laves with a wet tongue, little nips here and there just to change the pace a bit, and that was only on his balls. Roger loved it when someone paid attention to the two swollen orbs that nestled snugly below his cock and Cam was an expert at it. By the time Cam had reached his shaft, Roger’s thighs were trembling with the effort it took not to thrust deep and fuck his boy’s mouth. While he had no doubt that Cam could take it, Roger wanted to hold off and see what Cam would do on his own.

And what he did was perfect. Roger was proud of his uncut cock, but very few subs knew how to lick their way around his foreskin. Cam had no problems, licking, dipping his tongue inside, even nibbling on the stretched skin.

“Yes, just like that. Fuck, what you’re doing to me baby. So good.”

Cam’s eyes flashed up to meet his for just one second, but it was enough for Roger to know his mate was enjoying himself. As Cam opened wide and took his big cockhead inside his mouth, Roger leaned over and grabbed the lube. He was tall enough to get his dick sucked and prep his mate at the same time.  There was no way he was coming in that sensuous mouth, when there was a far bigger prize at stake.

Ms. Oliver has managed to meld her trademark style with exceptional character development. Her characters are always flawed, yet true to themselves, in ways that are unique to her books. Shifter stories tend to have many similarities and lack individuality, yet Lisa Oliver has managed to carve out her own niche in the m/m shifter world and made it her own. I come to expect certain themes with her books, and go to them again and again for the same reasons. Love, redemption, forgiveness, healing and personal strength, not to mention scorching hot sex and intense chemistry all combine to make the perfect shifter book.

Roger is indeed a sweet alpha, who carries guilt for leaving Cam alone after realizing they were mates. Admittedly though, Roger had very valid reasons for walking away from Cam when they first met, since Cam was naught but a boy and any kind of contact would have been very wrong, and not something even Lisa Oliver could salvage. So thankfully, Roger leaves Cam to grow up and intending to return once he was a grown man, not knowing that once he walked away and Cam reached his first change, that Cam's life would be hell.

Ms. Oliver tends to return to themes of abuse and violence, especially against her characters, though she uses a fade to black approach for most of it, and the violence referred to in this book were all past tense, or was stopped before it went too far into the darkness.

Cam touched my heart with his natural submission and fears, and Roger with his guilt and honest regret and love. A delightful pair, I will be returning to this book again when I need a dose of shifter magic.

Well done Lisa, I look forward to Phillip's story!

The story was well done. The only problem I had was with the character of Roger, the Omega's fated mate. He was truly a man whore and made no effort to hide it, from the club members up to and including his eventual mate.

******mild spoiler alert******

At the end a character named Jules turns out to be Cameron's childhood friend named Mikey. Why it was even mentioned that Jules and Roger has played around several times was beyond me. What happens when Cam finds out, because I'm pretty sure he would. This little tidbit of info was totally unnecessary and took away some of the luster of the story. I guess Cam will never be able to have a sub friend in the club since Roger's been through them all.

This is another great addition to an amazing M/M paranormal romance series! A great blend of romance, drama, humor, action and suspense. Cam is a gay Omega who had a very hard life...kicked out of his pack, homeless then turned into a slave to a sadistic master. Roger has known he has a mate in Cam but chose to leave him because of his young age and when he decides to claim him, he finds out that Cam is no longer part of a pack and he has no idea where to find him. Building a relationship will take a lot of work and patience. Well-written and a great storyline.
