    • They arrived at the apartment in less than five minutes and Rick parked in one of the guest spots and turned off his car. He sat for a few minutes, though, waging a war within himself. What was he doing? What if he couldn't maintain control? He worried that he could get in too deep with Josh. He had built a careful wall around his heart and was in no rush to see that crumble. Maybe he was just overanalyzing things.
    • The knock on his window jarred him and he turned to look up at Josh. Rick opened his door but stayed seated, his eyes on the steering wheel.
    • "You getting out? Or planning an escape?" Josh joked as he leaned his hip against the back door, his arms folded over his broad chest.

If he only knew how close he was to the truth. Rick gathered himself together and smiled at Josh before climbing out. Why he felt like a high school virgin, he had no idea. • Josh pulled back. "You taste so sweet." He licked his lips.
    • Rick bit his bottom lip and looked away. Why the hell did he feel warm all over?
    • Josh cupped his chin and pulled his face back to look into his eyes. "Hey, tell me what's going on. If you're not into me, just be honest."
    • Rick took a deep, shaky breath. "I have to admit, this came as a surprise to me."
    • "Really? I've been lusting after you for months," Josh teased, fingers caressing Rick's cheek. "I'm surprised you didn't pick up on it."
    • Rick's eyes widened and he shook his head. "I had no idea ... you never said anything."

Beautiful short story about finding your perfect match. Josh has been watching Rick work his way through lots of one night stands, knowing that those were not what Rick really needed or wanted. Rick is avoiding hurt and Josh just might be the answer to his hidden dreams.

I love Josh and how straightforward and honest he is. I really enjoyed Josh's character and how he is just a really solid guy. I liked Rick's connection with his friends and what a sweet guy he is. Rick and Josh really make a great couple.

Dr. Kevin Matthews is so wrapped up in his work, he hasn’t found time for love or even casual fun in far too long.

When gorgeous new nurse Mac Winters shows up at the hospital, the attraction between him and Kevin is immediate and intense. After several weeks of flirting and heated stares, they finally spend an evening getting to know each other.

Unfortunately, just when things turn hot and heavy, Mac announces he’s abstaining from sex because he’s tired of hookups and wants something real. Excerpt:
    • Walking around the Plaza became a weekly occurrence, as they’d found an Italian restaurant there they both loved. After several weeks, the staff were greeting them like family. The place was intimate enough to give them some alone time, but low key enough to wear jeans. The atmosphere was friendly and open and they’d quickly become fans. Nobody looked at them twice as they held hands, talked privately, and enjoyed the romantic ambience.
    • After dinner, they would stroll hand-in-hand, making a game of their evening by searching out various statues or artistic displays, including some of the fountains, and learning more about them.
    • Once in a while they’d stop in at a few of the shops, but more often than not, they just window-shopped. It was fun getting to know what each other liked and disliked.

    • They ended each evening with kisses that still sent currents of electricity shooting through Kevin’s body. He couldn’t get enough of Mac and it was obvious he felt the same about Kevin. But at the end of each date, they parted ways with their relationship still in the chaste category. Kevin’s sexual frustration seemed to intensify by the hour.
    • Mac had surprised Kevin several days a week with coffee until it became part of their everyday routine. Kevin had pointed out to Mac several times that he could make the coffee, but he told him not to worry about it. Personally, Kevin thought Mac enjoyed their baked goods too much to stop going there. Although, if Mac kept bringing him sweets every morning, Kevin was going to have to really up his workout game.
    • They’d even started lunching together at the hospital whenever their schedules allowed. One afternoon, Kevin overheard Heather telling another coworker how cute they were and he chuckled to himself. Kevin wasn’t exactly sure that was the correct description for two men six feet and over, with muscles and broad shoulders. Brawny, maybe. Sexy would be nice, too. But hey, if they wanted to call them cute, who was he to stop them?
    • They texted throughout the day, just simple messages letting each other know they were thinking of them. Never anything earth-shattering, but the messages always gave Kevin those silly warm fuzzies he’d heard about, but never experienced.
    • Truth was, he’d never had a man pursue him with such earnest, and as far as he was concerned, this courting thing was underrated. Why society ever gave up on it was beyond him.

This was a very short but superbly written story about Mac and Kevin, the nurse and the doctor. While all Mac wanted was to get in bed with the sexy doctor, Kevin did not want to get burned like his previous relationship where sex ruled them. There was intense sexual chemistry between them that wanted to melt my Kindle, but Kevin put the brakes on sex and asked Mac if he could "court" him. Take him on dates, romance him, get to know each other. And that is what happened. Slow build and slow burn to the intensely steamy ending and a happy for now romance. 1-click now to begin their journey!

If you’re looking for a quick but very sweet story, then I can recommend this story by Sarah Hadley Brook. Courted is a charming, feel-good novelette that shows the old ways weren’t so bad after all. It is lust at first sight for Kevin and Mac, but rather than immediately jump into bed they take their time getting to know each other. It is a delightful journey with lots of laughter, sweet words, and hot glances.
The writing is superb and carries you through the pages very quickly. Kevin and Mac are lovely characters, and the chemistry between them is palpable.
The story has a very satisfying and steamy ending.

Loved it!

Holding On, I believe, is a must-read book for anyone struggling with their sexuality while dealing with family abandonment and crush issues.

The two main characters, Aaron and Jeff are great guys. At the same time, they can be frustrating. You don't know whether to hug them or rent two eighteen-wheelers to pull their heads out of their asses, or at the very least knock their heads together.

Reading about the struggles Aaron goes through makes me wonder how many other Aarons are out there. How many Aarons are out there without a Jeff in their lives to act as their support system?

How many Jeffs are out there ready and able to help the Aarons?

I can't help but wonder how I managed to make it through without my Jeff. While my home life wasn't completely like Aaron's, it was similar.

In the past I have been in both positions, so it is easy for me to identify with the guys.

Both are lovable and easy to connect with. I'm hoping that Ms. Brook will continue their story.

5 out of 5 stars, and should be on everyone's reading list.

Kirsty on Joyfully Jay wrote:

Aaron is eighteen and about to graduate from high school. One of the most important people in Aaron’s life is his best friend, Jeff, but Aaron is keeping secrets: one, he is gay and in love with Jeff and two, that his father is regularly drunk and abusive.

When Jeff reveals to Aaron that he has found someone he is interested in, Aaron is disappointed but agrees when Jeff suggests they need to talk. After work one evening, when the two are due for this talk, Jeff drops Aaron home only to find Aaron’s house in disarray and Aaron’s mother lying in a pool of blood upstairs, being kicked by his father. Aaron’s life is thrown into chaos when this time he decides to phone the police. With his mother in the hospital, his father in prison, and his younger sister staying with grandparents, Aaron moves into Jeff’s home and with Jeff the only stability in Aaron’s life, Aaron attempts to hide his feelings. When an acquaintance shows an interest in Aaron, Jeff’s reaction resembles jealousy, so is it possible that the two best friends have both been hiding the same secret?

Holding On is a friends to lovers romance story. I really enjoyed the fact that during the first part of Holding On, Sarah Hadley Brook takes time to establish Aaron and Jeff’s friendship. Brook builds a very solid picture of the two young men and their closeness; Jeff is the one who stays beside Aaron at the hospital when his mother is admitted; Jeff holds Aaron through his nightmares and, as a witness, Jeff involves himself in the investigation to prosecute Aaron’s father. As a reader, I found myself comforted by Jeff’s presence in Aaron’s life. Aaron is dealing with loss, grief, and confusion, as well as attempting to continue at school and keep his job. I think I empathized with Aaron more because of the guilt he feels. He was aware of the abuse his father inflicted and did nothing previously. I, however, could not blame Aaron. Brook leaves her reader with no doubt that Aaron loves his mother and sister and that ultimately, Aaron thought his past actions were for the best.

From the beginning of Holding On, we are aware of Aaron’s feelings for Jeff, although Brook allows the anticipation of their romance to increase as the story progresses. I do not think the clues she gives her reader are subtle, though Aaron does not seem to pick up on Jeff’s hints. For example, when Jeff describes the eye color of the person he is interested in:

They are brown and sort of golden with some flecks of green in them. I guess you would say hazel. They’re beautiful.

After this, Aaron notes that “Jeff spoke about someone he really cared about” but fails to register that when he looks in the mirror that his own eyes are hazel.

When Brook makes the friends to lovers transition in Holding On, the story lost its flow for me. This was mainly because Brook chooses to depict the sexual side of their relationship. True, Aaron and Jeff are two eighteen-year-old boys and exploring each other sexually is natural, but I found myself skipping these parts because I was uninterested in them. Even Jeff’s one romantic gesture on prom night is really so they can be together in a hotel room!

I would have liked to have seen Brook concentrate more on Aaron’s panic attacks. We know that he has them and why, but after he chooses to see a professional, the issue is only mentioned again in one paragraph in the penultimate chapter. I do think that this could have been an intentional move on the part of the author, though, as Holding On is already full of emotion and this could have perhaps taken the focus away from Jeff and Aaron as a couple.

The Aaron we see in the final chapter is much changed from the young man at the beginning of Holding On and I almost felt like standing up and applauding his speech. I think Brook’s intention is for this to be an HEA, but as these are two eighteen-year-olds moving on the next chapter of their life, I do feel that it is a HFN ending, although not a disappointing one.

Holding On was not the sweet, fluffy romance I wanted, but I did enjoy Brook’s writing, in particular, the way that she evokes emotion. For me, the story wasn’t perfect, but I would still recommend it to fans of the young/new adult genre.

Ilona Fenton on Bonkers About Books wrote:

Ahh - young love with all it's misunderstandings and angst make such a good read. However this book isn't just about young love, it's about dealing with the aftermath of violence in the home and the stress of graduation all whilst trying to hold down a job and keep a best friend. But if you think this means it's a sad and dark book you'd be wrong, it has touches of warmth and lots of love and a happy end which is exactly what one would wish for. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a friends to lovers story or a coming out story or even a coming of age story. It has all that and I know I'll end up rereading it one day as it's a story I won't mind revisiting.

He’s also been in love with his best friend Dustin for nearly a decade. Years of keeping those feelings under control are put to the test when they begin a summer project together.

Dustin Vance builds furniture for a living, has just earned his pilot’s license, and has an amazing best friend. When he buys a 1976 Cessna Skyhawk, he asks Rafael to help restore it, then travel with him to Wisconsin for the largest aviation convention in the world.

As they spend their days working on the plane, they begin to spend their nights together. Will they find love in the clouds, or will they stall out before they even take off?

Excerpt:

A cool breeze blew past him as he walked into the night. Rafael texted Dustin before he pulled out of the parking lot, letting him know he was leaving and asking about Mac’s phone number. But since Dustin was probably sound asleep, he’d likely have to get that number after sunup.

As he turned onto his street, he saw a vehicle in his drive—Dustin’s Honda. His best friend had a key, so was probably inside.

He eventually found Dustin sprawled on his sofa, sound asleep, his arm crooked over his head. Rafael felt drawn to him like a magnet, but being too damned tired to fight his urges, he let himself look. Dustin’s T-shirt had ridden up, showing a stripe of pale skin, and Rafael imagined it soft and silky. His fingers itched to slip under the hem. He stared a little too long, though, and by the time he dragged up his gaze to

Dustin’s face, he found his friend staring back at him, smirking.

“You want to take a picture of…something?” he drawled teasingly.

Heat flooded Rafael’s cheeks and he forced a chuckle. “Whatever.”

Dustin rose and hugged him hard, as if just remembering what had happened. “God, I’m so sorry, Raf. Is the girl going to be okay?”

Rafael nodded, but wrapped Dustin in his arms, his head falling on the man’s shoulder. They stayed like that for a while. With anyone else, Rafael might have been embarrassed that he was fighting the urge to cry. Dustin held him tight and shared his strength. It crept into Rafael, shored him up. Helped him get past the image of Daisy huddled in that hospital bed. At least for a while.

When he finally pulled away, Dustin kept his arms around him and Rafael was too exhausted to read anything into it.

“Why are you here?”

“Because I know you, Raf. I know you care about your students—you open your heart to everyone. But I also know you’ve been particularly worried about this girl. I just didn’t want you coming home to an empty house.”

Rafael’s heart cracked more and he felt raw, open, and vulnerable. The world had reared its ugly head and shown its hideousness. He also felt lonely. Bone tired and so lonely. And he didn’t want to be lonely. At least not for the night. He swallowed hard. “Will you…stay?”

Dustin nodded, no hint of hesitation in his blue-green eyes. “Is there anything else I can do?”

Rafael and Dustin met in college and have been best friends ever since, now, ten years later, those feelings of friendship have grown into so much more for Raf. He’s fallen in love with his best friend, but Dusty will never return his feelings, permanently relegating Raf to the friend-zone, or will he?

I love a good friends to lovers and this one was well done. The progression from friends to lovers was smooth. They questioned the move from one to the other just enough to make it believable without going so overboard that you want to knock their heads together.

Raf and Dusty had amazing chemistry and were smoking hot together. The sex was off the charts hot and truthfully, not many authors can pull off dirty talk without it coming across as cheesy. There’s tons of dirty talk in this story and it’s anything but cheesy. *fans self*

I loved watching Raf and Dusty work to restore Dusty’s plane, and I’ll admit to googling the plane to see what it looked like. Haha

This was a great story, well-written and with lovable characters, who fit together perfectly and that you could really root for. If I had one complaint, it’d be that I found the middle a bit slow. I think the story needed a bit more angst or action to move it along, but other than that, I loved it and can highly recommend it!

Love In The Clouds, by Sarah Hadley Brook is a feel good, friends to lovers romance.

Rafael and Dustin, best friends, are so close that most people assume they are a couple. As a friend tells Raphael, "You guys talk - what? - five times a day? You spend nearly every evening together. You two might not realize it, but trust me, everyone else is pretty sure you're dating."

After hearing this, Raphael starts to notice Dustin in a new light. But, can friends become lovers? Can they even take that risk? Raphael has no idea how to deal with his new feelings.

Meanwhile, Dustin is excited to take Raphael on a trip in his new plane. Raphael is the only one he would even consider taking with him. And suddenly, he is noticing his friend's body and is feeling something more than friendship.

We get to follow this couple along, as they traverse the complicated world of falling for your best friend, being scared to tell them, and then allowing yourself to love them wholly.

Rafael and Dustin are perfect together, best friends who care for each other whole-heartedly. Adding a physical relationship to their friendship only makes their bond stronger.

One of Rafael's students, Daisy, lends a lot to this story, as she is being abused and Rafael is the one who comes to her help. I found this part of the story to be so well written, with heart and thoughtfulness.

Love In The Clouds also contains family issues, and some great friends. I hope we get to read about some of the other men soon. But for now, I suggest this Sarah Hadley Brooks to anyone who loves a friends to lovers romances.

Love in the Clouds was an adorable best friends to lovers story and I liked how the tension was build, how we saw through both guy’s eyes how their feelings changed – and how actually both felt the same right from the start.

What I didn’t knew – and which was a nice surprise – was the depth of the story with the subplot of Rafael’s student, a shy girl named Daisy. I was impressed how well this fit to the overall setting and it was something which wasn’t mentioned.

In fact I thought about the way how the events in the blurb were displayed and through the subplot we saw different sides by Rafael but also Dustin.

I snickered several times when the guys were totally oblivious about their feelings and how their other friends make remarks like: “Aren’t you two married yet?” or “You guys are attached from the hip. When is the wedding?” XD It’s adorable how deep they are in denial the first time. No way is the best friend allowed to be seen as hot or attractive, but their feelings can’t lie.

Due to their connection the two are very close to each other but they talk about insecurities too and that’s one thing I also liked about the book. They are aware of their feelings for each other at some point, acknowledge it in secret but the fear that the easiness is missing when they become a couple is a little obstacle, same as Dustin’s experience with a former boyfriend.

Both guys are well fleshed out and I liked how we see a character who’s caring about his students, one who can’t look away when he sees something terrible; also is he interesting with his hidden dominance; Dustin, his friend, has more layers than you maybe expect in first place and you can agree with Rafael that he’s adorable when he’s into his “I’m a pilot, I know how to fly that thing”-mode.

4 out of 5 stars for this.

Sequel to A Love to Remember

Graham’s best friend Marc Byrne has been in a self-imposed dry spell for the past six months, reevaluating his life. Tired of the bar scene, he wants something true and lasting like Graham found with Sam. He wants to find Mr. Right.

When Marc meets the gorgeous, motorcycle riding, tattooed man of his dreams at a lake party, he falls hard and fast. Reminding himself that was how he was hurt before, he puts the man out his mind. Easier said than done.

Aiden Wright is blown away by Marc and wants to get to know him better, but he keeps running and Aiden can’t figure out why. The attraction between them is intense and Aiden is sure he can give Marc what he wants, if he’ll just take a chance.

Excerpt:
    • Marc brushed past Aiden, and stepped outside. The path leading to the road and the driveway was actually up a hill some, so they walked quietly, Marc in front until they reached the road. When he laid eyes on the motorcycle, he gasped and spun around.

    • Aiden’s eyes crinkled as he smiled. “Yeah. It’s a 1969 Triumph 500. I rebuilt her myself. It’s a hobby. You know about motorcycles?”
    • “Some. I read. A lot.” Marc was completely impressed as he traced his hand over the cycle. The green paint job was gorgeous in the moonlight. The long seat was made of soft, black leather and he couldn’t wait to ride it. “Great hobby,” he murmured.
    • Aiden laughed. “Yeah. I enjoy it. You have any hobbies? I mean, other than being the world’s foremost expert on George Michael?” he asked as grabbed the two helmets and offered Marc one before he swung a leg over and settled in.
    • Marc put his on. It was a little big, but he was used to things being too big. It had been like that all his life. “Yeah. I love dancing. Reading.” Marc grinned. “And just so you know, the man was an amazing artist and had a fabulous solo career. I have several concert shirts, and all sorts of collectibles. You should see them!”
    • Aiden nodded, his eyes twinkling in the moonlight. “Sounds great. I’ve never been a fan of someone so much I collect anything. I’m impressed.” He patted the bike seat behind him. “Hop on.”
    • “Oh, hang on. Let me throw this into my car,” he said, holding up his backpack. He tossed it into the back seat and walked back over to Aiden.
    • Marc struggled a little with climbing on. He was short and the bike wasn’t but he finally got on, wrapped his arms around Aiden, pressing his chest to Aiden’s back. His heart sped up as Aiden started the engine.
    • “Hold on tight,” he called back.
    • Marc tightened his arms and felt Aiden’s chuckle as he merged onto the empty road. He followed the path around the lake until they drove over the dam and then out onto the country roads, where he sped up.
    • His soul was flying as they rode under the open sky, the stars twinkling high above. Cool air blew against them and scooted closer to Aiden, soaking up his warmth. It had been incredibly hot earlier, but the nights could get cool rather quickly.
    • Marc leaned forward, resting his head against Aiden’s back. The man was pure muscle and he felt safe with him, even after just meeting him. He breathed in deep and sighed. He could get used to touching Aiden.

Marc had been floating from guy to guy until he sees his best friend fall in love. After that, he decided to look for Mr Right. Then he meets Aidan Wright and the heat between them is instant!

Everything between them happens so fast. The day the meet, they spend all of their time together, just feeling this instant connection. Then they discover that they are perfect together in bed. Marc loves being submissive, and Aidan is more than willing to be his daddy in the bedroom.

I seriously love these two guys. Marc is small in stature and has always been insecure about his size. And he finds his definition of perfection in Aidan, who is big and muscular. He feels safe with Aidan, and thrilled to be able to explore his daddy kink with him.

One of the sweetest parts of the book is Aidan talking about Marc, saying '"It was like this beautiful, tender-hearted, smart, funny, amazing man had dropped from the sky.""

Everything He Wants is the first book I have read by Sarah Hadley Brook. I am charmed by this sweet, easy story. It is a fun, low-angst romance. I will be definitely be reading more from Sarah, including the first book in this series - A Love to Remember.

Officer Chad Charming absolutely does not believe in love at first sight, or even love at all. Apple Grove is famous for their Fairy Tale Parade, and Chad is working when a horse carrying the parade’s Prince Charming kicks him, landing him in the hospital.

Jeff Garner’s family has a history of love at first sight and the local high school drama teacher is mortified when his horse kicks the sexiest man he’s ever seen. One look and he knows Chad’s the man for him.

Jeff sets out to woo the man, even though Chad makes it clear he isn’t looking for a relationship. While Chad recovers from his injuries, the two become close, but can Chad ever get past the idea love isn’t real and allow himself to love his very own Prince Charming?

Excerpt:
    • A little while later, Chad jolted awake as he heard Jeff coming through the front door. Blurry eyed, he looked around, trying to get his bearings. How long had he been asleep?
    • “Hey, sorry, Chad. It took a little longer than I thought. Looks like you had a little nap, huh?”
    • Chad focused on Jeff and smiled. God, he was cute.
    • “What? Do I have something on me?” Jeff asked as he looked down at his clothes.
    • Chad shook his head. “Sorry. Just waking up.”
    • Jeff pulled out his pill bottles and read the instructions before opening one of them. “Looks like you need to take one of these right now and another one tonight before bed,”

he said as he handed over the pill.

    • Chad took a swig and swallowed the pill. “What about the other?” he asked, gesturing with his hand toward the second pill bottle.
    • “It says as needed. The nurse said you should take them for the first couple of days whether you think you need them or not, though.”
    • Chad’s brow furrowed. “Why?”
    • “She said that with what happened to you, it will feel like you were in a car accident and you know how you always hurt the worst on the third day?”
    • Chad nodded. That was definitely true.
    • “Well, she said they want you to take them every 8 hours for now and then in two days you can decide.” He paused and looked at Chad. “You want one now?”
    • “I took a pill this morning around six. What time is it?”
    • “A little after two. It’s time, then.” Jeff made quick work getting the pill out and handing it over. “This one will make you drowsy. Want to get settled in bed?”
    • “Yeah. But I think I can make it myself, Jeff.”
    • “Probably so, but how about I just follow you and if you need me, let me know, okay?”
    • Chad shrugged. “Suit yourself.” He took another swig of his drink and swallowed the second pill.
    • He pulled himself up and made his way slowly up the stairs to the second floor. He couldn’t believe how achy he was feeling. The arm in the cast didn’t really hurt, though. At the moment, it was more annoying than anything. He walked into his bedroom and was glad he had picked up yesterday. Didn’t need dirty boxers laying around.
    • Chad settled himself on the bed, his feet still on the ground and reached down to slip his shoes off and nearly tumbled off the bed.
    • Jeff swooped in and caught him, pushing him back up. “Whoa there, big guy.”
    • Chad closed his eyes and waited for the spinning to stop. “What the hell?”
    • “The meds are probably making you loopy,” Jeff said. “Or it could just be that your equilibrium is off from the accident. Here, let me help you get ready.” He slowly let go of Chad and reached down, gently pulling off his shoes and setting them aside. Jeff looked up at Chad and their gazes caught for a moment. Chad’s heartrate sped up and he reached out to stroke Jeff’s cheek, letting his finger trace along his jawline.
    • “Your skin is so soft,” Chad murmured. “So soft.”
    • Jeff blushed and looked away. “Um, so you want to sleep in your sweats?”
    • “No. Boxers and T-shirt.” Chad attempted to yank at the waist, but feeling dizzy and with only one usable hand, it was useless.
    • Jeff stood up and leaned over him, hooking his hands into the elastic waistband. “Lift a little,” he whispered.
    • Chad obeyed and Jeff dragged the pants out from under him and had them completely off in seconds. He looked down at his boxers and briefly hoped that he wasn’t hard. Because he always seemed to get hard around Jeff.
    • “Lay back,” Jeff urged him. “Let’s get you settled. I’ll head out after you fall asleep, but I’ll come back around seven tonight. Sound good?”
    • “Take my keys, Brown Eyes,” Chad mumbled, letting his head fall to the pillow. Sleep was pulling him under, but he was pretty sure he felt Jeff tuck the blanket around him before he left.

Chad Charming is a police officer who has recently moved to the town of Apple Grove and he has been assigned to cover Apple Groves’ annual fairytale parade. He is enjoying his apple smoothie in the relaxed atmosphere when a small child runs into the street behind the Snow White float. Chad reacts and rescues the child safely, but turns to find himself face-to-face with a prince on horseback. Unfortunately, the horse spooks, rearing and kicking Chad in the stomach.

The ‘prince’ riding the horse is school drama teacher, Jeff Garner. He visits Chad in the hospital, initially out of guilt, but then when Chad is released the two become friends as Jeff stops by every night, usually with dinner.

Is it possible for Jeff, who believes in love at first sight, to convince Chad, who does not believe in love at all, that fairy tales really can come true?

When I read the blurb for Officer Charming and the Prince Who Wooed Him, I was assuming that the story would be a sweet romance. Yet, this is not exactly what Sarah Hadley Brook delivers to her reader. Sure, there are moments of romance, like Chad and Jeff’s official date, but Brook develops both mens’ characters as they get to know one another. Oh, and also there are several very steamy episodes between them! For me, the sex scenes fit within the story. Both men are passionate and Brook makes Chad’s sexual attraction towards Jeff is very clear. Importantly, this adds to the character profile we have of Chad. He has never been in love; he is used to dating without strings and even wonders “if love was real or something manufactured by humans to convince themselves they belonged to someone.”

It is the first time the men have sex that Brook gives her reader an inkling that Chad may have deeper feelings and though I was certainly not surprised by the outcome of Officer Charming and the Prince Who Wooed Him, I did enjoy the characters and Brook’s story-telling.

Fairy tales are a common element for many readers and Brook draws on some popular tropes and elements of these traditional stories. I really liked the romantic setting of Apple Grove and the fairytale parade. The parade was started by Ralph Garner, the founder of the town who had created the first float to propose to his love, Aurora — named after Sleeping Beauty. Even Chad admits to loving the romance of Ralph and Aurora’s story, and the fact that Jeff is related to Ralph Garner — and there is a family history of falling in love at first sight — just makes Brook’s novella all the more enchanting.

Officer Charming and the Prince Who Wooed Him is tender and sexy and Chad and Jeff are endearing characters. This is not a holiday story, but at this time of the year, I really appreciated the happiness and positivity Brook conveys. This is definitely one to read!

Matthew' s Present audio - Sarah Hadley Brook

ISBN: ISBN-13 978-1-63533-168-4

Matthew Blick is almost thirty years old, and he hates the thought of another holiday alone. He has become a bit of a wet blanket when Christmas rolls around every year. So much so that even his five-year-old niece, Hannah, knows something needs to change. She asks the department store Santa to bring her uncle a man to love, and when Santa sees her uncle, he formulates a plan to set that possibility in motion.

Santa shows up at Matthew’s house and at first Matthew can’t place him, but then the memories of his first kiss flood his mind and he is shocked to find that Santa is the man he has carried a torch for since high school. Will this twist of fate help Matthew change his view on the holidays? Only a kiss can tell.

A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2016 Advent Calendar "Bah Humbug."

Excerpt:

“THERE HE is, Uncle Matthew,” his niece announced quietly, her excitement tempered with the respect all children have for Santa. Eagerly, she nudged him and pointed ahead, barely able to contain her enthusiasm. She was practically bouncing up and down in her pink-and-white snow boots as a grin spread across her delicate face.

Finally, he thought, fighting another yawn. They had been standing in line for at least an hour. He shifted her pink coat onto his other arm and glanced over at Santa’s Workshop, immensely pleased that someone in a Santa suit was making his way over to the green velvet throne. The oversized plush chair was adorned with hideous gold accents and something that he could only assume from this far back was supposed to be holly berries. Larger-than-life presents and toys—was that supposed to be a spinning top?—surrounded the throne, and the ground was covered in lots of fluffy white faux snow.

Several more people dressed in matching elf costumes scurried around as they prepared to open the gate to the dozens of people waiting their turn. He looked down the line of frustrated parents as he tried to gauge how much longer he would be stuck in this nightmare, taking some personal satisfaction at the defeated expressions many of the adults wore. If he had to be stuck here, he was glad there were others suffering along with him. What kind of monster had created this special kind of hell that pulled children in through the lure of sitting on Santa’s lap, only to spit them back out tired, angry, and hungry?

While standing in place for the past hour, he had witnessed the process several times over as more than one ran from the line, a shrieking mother or father usually close on their heels. Most of those parents didn’t show back up, choosing to forgo the line and head home instead. Lucky bastards, he thought.

He scanned the department store again. Large, bulky wreaths decorated with red and gold bows hung everywhere, while thick garlands made of artificial greenery draped across signs, countertops, doors, and railings. Massive ornaments in every shape and color hung from the ceiling throughout the entire store. There was just no way to escape the holiday.

When Matthew’s roped into taking his niece to see Santa, he doesn’t expect the torture of waiting in line. He also doesn’t expect the department store Santa to follow him home only to learn that his niece wished Santa to bring a man for Matthew to love. When Santa shows up, Matthew’s more than stunned especially when he finds out just who Santa is under the suit.

This was such a cute story! I loved the premise of it and how the story played out. The fact that Santa, who’s really Tyler, thought it would be a great idea to ‘gift’ himself as Matthew’s present took a lot of balls and the fact that he didn’t even know how it would play out or have a plan made the story that much more fun. I loved that Matthew and Tyler had a bit of history and it was sweet seeing Matthew realize just who Tyler was.

I really enjoyed this story but I must say, it felt more like the start of a novel than an actual short story. It ended so suddenly, I was a little disappointed that we didn’t get to see more of what happened next. Specifically, a little snippet of where these two are in three or even six months.

All in all, I enjoyed this little story. I liked that Tyler took such a big risk and then felt embarrassed by it. I also liked that these two had a little bit of history. I definitely hope this author writes a sequel because I’d love to know if Tyler and Matthew make it after the holidays. Definitely give this one a go if you’re looking for a short, sweet little story!

Overall Impression: I really liked it!

Review: 5 Stars for Matthew’s present (and the book).

This little Christmas short gave me a lot of feels. Matthew was that cute, hard-working guy who loved his family, was far too much of a push over for his own good, an just couldn’t seem to get his holiday spirit back after one terrible Christmas six years ago.

Tyler was the cute boy who happened to be in the right place at the right time once in his life and just could not let it go. He had eyes that could imprison you and he knew just how to make Matthew smile.

These two had chemistry for days and they fit together just right. Their history together made their formal introduction much more intense and can we give Matthew’s niece a round of applause for setting this up?

Highly recommended. Great book. This was my first time reading a book by Sarah Hadley Brook and I was not disappointed. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for her future releases.

This is a short story, 69 pages on my iPad, and it’s very holiday and sweet. Hannah has made her request to Santa, “She asked Santa for a man to love her Uncle Matthew so he wouldn’t be lonely and would like Christmas again.” That’s exactly what Santa has set out to do and I enjoyed reading it.

Nick pulled me closer, until he could wrap his arms around my waist, and pressed his cheek against my stomach. I ran my fingers through his silky hair. It                         was softer than I'd imagined.

"Because the feelings I've developed for you forced me to reevaluate who I am. Who I want to be."

"Who do you want to be?" I asked quietly, still stroking his hair.

He leaned his head back and pinned me with his stare. "I want to be a man worthy of being with you. And I knew you wouldn't date someone in the closet."

"Worthy of me?" My breath whooshed out and my heart pounded in my ears. Was this really happening?

    • Nick smiled and softly kissed my stomach. "Haven't you noticed how often I try to come over? How many times I sat next to you when we watched movies? I did anything to be near you. But I wasn't out and was afraid of what it meant. I couldn't tell you how I felt until I was honest with myself, my family, and my friends. And now I can." He kissed me again and then rose from the couch, cupping my face with his hands. "I can finally do this," he whispered, just before his lips brushed mine.

Nick pulled back and caressed my cheek. "You've already changed my life in more ways than you may ever know." He stared into my eyes and smiled. "I        was afraid you weren't interested and I wouldn't have a chance with you." He blushed and my heart stuttered right over the cliff.

Graham Hayes decided long ago he’d never be in a relationship. It was better to stay single than to fall in love only to be left alone, which he was certain would happen to him. He’d seen Alzheimer’s ravage his family members all his life, leaving their loved ones to deal with the fallout. Some of them stayed, but some didn’t. Graham isn’t going to risk it.

When he hires nurse Sam Morgan to take care of his dad during the day, his pledge to stay single is put to the test. He soon finds it difficult to maintain a professional distance.

Graham’s guarded his heart for so long, but his resolve is crumbling. Will he be able to conquer his fear to give himself a chance at love? Can he trust Sam to stick around for better or worse?

Excerpt:
    • The doorbell rang just as Graham took a seat at the table, preparing to try and get some work done. It had been days since he'd even opened his laptop. He groaned. Looked like it wasn't meant to be for the moment. His dad had finished his granola cereal and was sitting on the sofa, reading a book. It was still early enough in the morning where he seemed to have most of his faculties.
    • Assuming it was the home health care aide the agency was sending over, he didn't bother to check the peephole or the window next to the entrance and swung the door open.
    • Graham's jaw dropped and he stood in place, his feet frozen to the ground. Was he hallucinating? What the hell was going on? He stepped out and pulled the door partially closed behind him so he could speak to the man on his doorstep. The man currently grinning down at him.

    • "What are you doing here?" Graham hissed. "How did you find me?" He glanced up at the man he'd met at the club and wondered if he should call the cops. Wasn't this considered stalking? It didn't matter that his body reacted in all kinds of weird ways. He could be dangerous. And compared to Graham, the guy was huge.
    • The man stepped back and held up his hands, palms out. "Hey, I had no idea you lived here."
    • Graham's eyes narrowed.
    • "No, seriously," he insisted. "The agency sent me here."
    • "Agency?"

                     Shit.

    • "You're the ... home health care aide?"
    • S.G. nodded and offered his hand. "I'm Sam Morgan. Nurse for hire."
    • Graham stared up at him -- probably a little too long at the man's massive chest -- and finally shook his hand, shaken by the jolt of electricity coursing through his arm. "Okay. Um, come inside?" His voice was trembling.

                    Get a grip!

S.G. -- Sam -- followed him inside, ducking his head as he walked through the doorway.

    • His dad didn't look up, so Graham led the man to the kitchen table, gesturing for him to take a seat. He wasn't even sure what to say. Or ask. He felt awkward. And silly for thinking the guy was stalking him. Graham had only been a quick fuck at the club for Sam. A means to an end. Nothing more.
    • He sat across from Sam and stared. The man was even sexier in the daylight. Dirty blond hair cut close to the scalp, a little longer on top. In the light he could see his eyes were the color of caramel. Hazel, maybe? He fought the urge to reach across the table and stroke the stubble still covering his jawline. And shit, the man was broad. Huge. He'd thought of him as a warrior that night and he found himself thinking that was still an apt description.
    • "You're a nurse?" he blurted out.
    • Sam frowned. "Hey, don't stereotype me," he said quietly. "I love being a nurse."
    • Graham's face heated. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean ... I guess I'm just kind of shocked at seeing you here," he admitted.
    • Sam's frown turned into a grin. "Yeah, not exactly what I was expecting this morning, either." He tilted his head toward Graham's dad on the sofa. "I assume I'm here for him?"
    • Graham cleared his throat, tried to clear his head. "Yeah. That's my dad. Thurston. Thurston Hayes."
    • "So you must be Graham Hayes?" Sam's voice was quiet, his gaze on Graham.
      • "Yes. I'm sorry. I should have introduced myself."

Shit.

    • He was blundering this. He'd never felt so off-kilter when it came to a man. "Do you want something to drink?"
    • Sam shook his head. "No thanks. Right now, can you fill me in on your dad? Let me know what's going on. I have some basic information, but it always helps to get specifics from family."
    • "Sure." Graham glanced at his dad and saw he was still engrossed in his book. He wondered if he'd even turned a page. Was he struggling with reading, too? Graham turned back to Sam, who was watching him, patiently waiting for him to continue. "I'm not sure what you want to know?"
Sam leaned back and offered him a small smile. "My job is to make your life easier and help the patient feel better. Why don't you just tell me a little about      your dad?"

This story was quite personal to me, having lost my Dad due Alzheimer’s related illness. I found the author has done a good job and portrayed Graham’s dad and his Alzheimer’s well and sensitively.

The story starts with Graham has anonymous sex behind the night club. He refuses to exchange name and numbers with the stranger. He won’t break his no relationship, or second date rules, which he has followed for years.

Only for the stranger to turn out to be his father’s new carer who turns up at his door. Graham tries to resist temptation, but Sam keeps pushing and of course Sam is hot, caring and funny.

I love how well Sam interacted with Thurston, and the humor from Thurston’s insistence that the two boys were dating. People with Alzheimer’s are not stupid they still see things, they keep their knowledge and wisdom, at least in the early stages.

Sam Doesn’t give up on Graham, he knows he fears getting Alzheimer’s and thinks Sam would leave him if he did become ill.

The Story although sad at times, is also heart warming and full of warmth and love, without being sloppy.

A sweet and steamy story.

A Love to Remember is the first book I’ve read by Sarah Hadley Brook. Graham is dealing with some pretty heavy stuff. His father has early-onset Alzheimer’s and he has moved them in together so that he can care for him. This horrible disease runs in his family, with several relatives suffering from the early-onset variety.

Graham is fortunate that his job, as a writer and editor, allows him to work from home. But caring for his father has proved to be too much of a distraction and he’s not getting any work done. So, he hires a nurse, Sam Morgan, to help care for his father during the day so that he can work without distractions. The problem is that Sam proves to be a distraction all by himself.

This was a good story. I have friends who have had relatives with early-onset Alzheimer’s and it’s a horrible disease. I admire anyone who is willing to adjust their life to care for a loved one, regardless of the disease – not everyone can do this. The story seems to represent pretty accurately the things my friends have related to me.

The connection between Graham and Sam is pretty electric and, even though Graham has sworn off relationships, he just can’t seem to keep his feelings for Sam under control. There are a couple of pretty hot scenes between Graham and Sam, otherwise the story is mostly focused on their growing feelings for each other.

This was a good, easy to read novella and I enjoyed it.

Well, this book certainly has the feels in it. We meet Graham, and he has gone out to a club, hoping to find some action, as this will be the last time for quite a while, as he is soon to be the full time carer for his father who has Alzheimer’s.

Graham does meet someone who pushes all his buttons on his night out, but he is adamant that it is for one night only, he just doesn’t do relationships – and I have to say I can understand his reasoning, he would be left alone, just like other family members have been, and he doesn’t want that.

When the nurse arrives to help look after his father, he is dumbstruck by who is at the door, and now his decision of not having a relationship is not as sound as it is. The nurse Sam, wants a relationship with Graham, but he will have to try and break through the barriers to achieve this….. but will he succeed?

I have to say, this is one of the first books that I have read that is dealing with Alzheimer's, and I don't think I understood what sort of struggles carers have, but also that could also be hereditary. This was quite the enlightening book to me.
