In the world of wedding planning, timing is everything. For Paul and Evan, their timing couldn't be worse.
When they first meet on the historic night marriage equality passes in Michigan, sparks ignite, followed quickly by humiliation and irritation.
Wedding fever quickly engulfs the gay community, and their summer weekends fill up with increasingly over the top events. They orbit each other in reception halls, exchanging glances over appetizer stations and trading bland pleasantries by open bars. But their experiences as plus ones with other dates—including Paul's evening with a Tantric practitioner, and Evan’s night with someone who possesses a macabre collection of ex-lover memorabilia—leave them unfulfilled and slightly bitter toward romance.
As the summer heat intensifies, however, so does their attraction. Yet somehow, they never manage to secure that elusive first date with each other. When autumn approaches and their best friends' wedding looms on the horizon, Paul and Evan face their final chance to turn their summer of "plus ones" into something that might last forever, if they can finally get their timing right.

Miggy shrewdly eyed Evan. “Just trying to figure out how to go about getting you a new man.”
Evan groaned. “Do I really need one? I mean, living alone has its benefits. No one eats my snacks, and I can sleep diagonal across the bed.”
“Stop making excuses.” Miggy took a bite of her burger. “What are you looking for in a man?”
Evan shrugged. “I don’t know. Someone handsome.”
“Duh. Next requirement, please.”
He chewed on his straw and thought about Paul Cooper. A bubble seemed to grow inside his chest, ready to pop and force out of his mouth all the thoughts, emotions, and hopes he had for Paul Cooper, but he managed to contain it. He didn’t really even know Paul. How could he possibly feel so strongly for him? Besides, Paul would never be attracted to him; Paul wanted someone like the motorcycle bad boy he had been with at the wedding.
“Hello?” Miggy said.
READ MORE“I don’t know, Miggy.” Evan sighed. “Someone nice and kind and all those bland words you hear people talk about, but when they finally meet the guy who brings it all home for them, they know it, you know? They just fucking know it, like right on the spot. And it doesn’t matter that they’re dating someone else or are, like, way out of that person’s league. It just sparks between them, and they know it.”
Miggy stared at him as Evan took a deep breath and let it out. “You okay?” She raised an eyebrow for emphasis.
Evan looked away. “Yes. Of course I am.”
Miggy rolled her eyes. “Yeah. Okay. Well, Disney Princess Evan, we’ll work on finding that perfect man for you.”
Evan rolled his eyes. “No mail-order husbands, please. Thanks.”
Miggy lifted her empty plastic cup up over her head and held it there, her signal to their waitress that she wanted a refill. “So particular.”
Evan grunted and sipped his lemonade, his mind spinning with thoughts of Paul Cooper as Miggy held her empty glass in the air and sighed impatiently.
