Everyone deserves to be loved. But with constant abuse from his step-father and his mother’s contempt, Christian Goodley isn’t so sure. Being gay in high school is hard enough. Also being the black sheep in the family with only one friend in the world makes life damn near impossible to bear. But when Christian’s path crosses with a new teacher his senior year, a ray of hope brings new life and meaning to his world.

Damien Duvel, a recent college graduate and History teacher, forges a bond of friendship with Christian that the young man so desperately needs. As their relationship evolves and matures the rumor mill in the school starts turning. Hushed whispers and sidelong glances turn to outright accusations.

For both Christian and Damien it would seem that fate had brought them together. But with so many factors conspiring against them, it is unclear whether they can tow the fine line they walk without stepping away unscathed emotionally or physically.

Reading this was like driving on a scenic, winding, back road... Beautiful scenery that you want to constantly drink it in, yet there are so many twists and turns in the road that you need need to keep your eyes on it in case you get lost. Thrilling read.

Before reading this review, I needed two days to fully process this novel. After reflecting about this book, I love it. This novel had me crying, laughing, and sad. Some people will never understand the struggles and/or pain that a young black gay man have to go through. Life is a roller-coaster in itself let alone but add sexuality and the void of love from your family... it is a very challenging thing to go through and for some taking ones' live becomes their answer. I love this novel because it shed light on numerous factors that youth may face... Can not wait for VOLUME 2......

You never know how many people are living under cover and this book just shows you that it really does happen. It will have you asking how could a mother treat her children like this because of this man. But it happens out here for real. Women sometimes don't want their children to keep them from getting the man that they think is right for them and then there are some women who don't want people to know that they have a child like this in their family. Then for the mother to let this man/her husband beat the living daylights out of her child is crazy. It will have you shaking you head trying to understand why the mother is letting this happen to her child.
