About The Book

Old MO, new killer. Can she catch a psychopath before he strikes again? Book 5 in the popular Lessons in Murder series, by award-winning, best-selling author Edale Lane

Lieutenant Detective Jenna Ferrari is called to the scene of a brutal murder that exactly mirrors a former serial killer’s MO in all regards but one: this time the victim is a man. The killer responsible for the previous homicides is dead himself. Did he have a partner who was never caught? If not, how could this perpetrator mimic details never released to the public?

Randi just wants to enjoy some quality time with her cop over spring break, but Jenna’s pressing investigation may put a cork in their plans. With their relationship progressing nicely, could they be ready to move to the next stage?

The entire city is on edge with the possibility of a new serial killer stalking his next victim. Can Jenna and her team track him down and arrest him before he strikes again, possibly closer to home?

Don’t miss a minute of the action in this novel-length installment of the Lessons in Murder series. If you’re a fan of police procedurals, cozy with pets, and sapphic relationship-building, then you’ll love this series. Can a tough cop and a tender teacher take a stab at romance with a killer on the loose? Find out in Reprise in Murder.

The Review

Jenna and Randi had been having a great Saturday. While helping out Habitat for Humanity, Jenna has been watching Randi as she shows her expertise with a hammer. Reverend Luna Baldwin and many of the congregation have expressed their appreciation for Jenna, too, but she still carries some emotional baggage when it comes to God and religion. But Jenna knows one thing for sure – Randi is the best thing that has ever happened to her.

Because they both enjoy the outdoors, she’s planning to get time off for a canoe-camping trip to spend some quality time with Randi. They’ve even worked on getting Byron and Bandit to behave when they’re in the same space. As Sunday morning rolls around, Jenna is seriously considering going to church with Randi, but that gets put on hold when she gets a call.

Capt. Jerome Myers has personally called Jenna in on a crime scene that needs to be kept under wraps. With her team on board, Jenna enters the home of Rafael Perez, and finds a grisly scene. They have seen this modus operandi before – an old serial killer, the Roanoke Ravager aka Garth Webber, who died in prison.  There was so much evidence against Webber that much of it was never revealed to the court, or to the public. The only obvious clue is a blue iridescent butterfly pin, and the only change is that the victim is a man.

Det. Lt. Jenna Ferrari and her team will have to put in long, hard hours as the investigation gets more complicated, interviewing witnesses, prison guards, prisoners, parolees and retired Det. Lt. Kurt West. And Jenna’s thoughts are clouded with concerns about her personal life with Randi and the job. Jenna puts all of that aside, until the unthinkable happens.

Reprise In Murder is another gritty, suspenseful, thriller in the “Lessons In Murder” series. Lane builds on the relationship between Jenna and Randi, as Jenna works through her own-self doubts. There are things she hasn’t found her way to deal with yet, too.

Even when things seem darkest for Jenna, Randi always has a way to bring positivity and calm to Jenna’s world. Randi proves that she wants to have Jenna in her life with a surprise, and she makes room for Bandit too.

We get to see many of Randi’s family, friends and colleagues too, and Jenna’s Roanoke PD team is comprised of a fascinating set of players. With each case, one member of the team stands out. In this one, it’s tech specialist Ethan Bauman, who gets to show off his expertise, as the research will take the team back seven years, and he digs deep to come up with all the information to keep the investigation on track.

I highly recommend Reprise In Murder – the investigation is intense, the characters are interesting and well-rounded, and there’s always a twist where Jenna and Randi are concerned.  And I love the cover too.

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California. Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018. My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen. New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.

I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.

My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012. She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series. Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!

As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.

My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing. I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.

I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews. One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group. Joining her site was such an eye opener. I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.

But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
