About The Book

Alternative Holidays is an anthology that takes a dark—and sometimes humorous—look at many of our favorite holidays. You’ll be transported from the bottom of the sea to Mount Olympus, from shopping malls in hell to a bathtub in a cheap motel. Cthulhu awakens. Cupid becomes a vigilante. Santa grants deadly wishes. And that’s just the beginning of your journey into alternative visions of the holidays we know, love, and sometimes fear.

The Review

Edited by Alicia Hilton and Bob Brown, Alternative Holidays is an anthology that will by turns amuse, delight, horrify, and compel you.

These tiny bites of prose and poetry are like amuse bouche for the brain. They range from two to about fifteen pages, quick little reads that can fill a few minutes or hold your attention until you finish the entire anthology. They give a small taste of what each author offers in the way of style and substance, while treating the reader to unique twists on various holidays and holiday icons.

Definitely not the Christmas tales read to children, Alternative Holidays is a fun, quirky read with a nice variety of merriment and mayhem.

The Reviewer

I’m an avid reader who loves pretty much all genres except math textbooks. As a kid, my parents exposed me to everything from fairies, hobbits, and dragons to the biographies of interesting people around the world, interspersed with poetry, plays, and music. Into adulthood, I spent a lot of years with my nose buried in various textbooks. Now, I read whatever grabs my fancy.
