A Bad Case of Vampire Curiosity
by
There’s nothing more dangerous than a bored vampire.
Doctor Anthony Channon, commonly known as Ant, was still struggling after his sister's abduction and what he perceived as a gross betrayal by the police captain he'd been used to working for. In theory, he should've been enjoying time off from his time as a police consultant, and lecturer at the Mage Academy. But that wasn't easy to do when his fated mate, Viktor couldn't seem to sit still for five minutes.
“What the hell did you do that for?” Viktor scowled, dabbing at the blood welling up from a knife cut in his shirt. “I’m supposed to be having lunch with my mate in less than thirty minutes, and now I have to find a new shirt.”
Viktor was bored with a capital B. Not with his mate, never with his mate, but Viktor was used to living in the thick of things and life with Ant wasn't like that. When he gets a random call, asking him to meet someone in an alley, it was tempting to ignore it... but did I mention Viktor was bored? A knife to the guts later and Viktor might come to regret his impulsive decision, especially when Ant found out.
“Why would I want to meet Carmine Doukas? I’ve already met him. I don’t need to do that again.”
It appears that Ant's reputation has changed since taking down Tony Manzano, and another "Family Man" Carmine Doukas thinks that having Viktor and Ant on his team is a good idea. Dangling a carrot in the form of a historic murder case under Ant's nose, and he's intrigued despite Viktor's warnings. But as the rabbit hole gets deeper and solving the murder seems almost impossible, have Ant and Viktor finally been manipulated a step too far?
The Psychic and the Vampire: A bad case of vampire curiosity is the sequel to The Psychic and the Vampire. To get the most out of this story, it would be best to have read book one first.

“What the hell did you do that for?” Viktor scowled, dabbing at the blood welling up from a knife cut in his shirt. “I’m supposed to be having lunch with my mate in less than thirty minutes, and now I have to find a new fucking shirt.”
“It got your attention, didn’t it.” Giorgio, Tony Manzano’s former bodyguard showed his teeth as he wiped his blade on a piece of tissue and stuffed both of them in his pant’s pocket. “I always heard you vamps tend to go into a blood rage over the sight of blood. I wondered if it worked when you saw your own. It doesn’t look like it, though which is a bummer.”
“All you’ve done is ruin a perfectly good shirt.” Viktor stuck his finger through the hole. As expected, his skin had already healed, but he didn’t have any magic that would fix the hole in his shirt. Ant is going to be pissed at me.
READ MORELooking up, he flashed his fangs at Giorgio who took a step back. “Why the hell did you text me? I’m not helping get Tony out of jail if that’s what you’re wondering.”
“Tony’s old news. I come bearing a message from Carmine Doukas.”
“Doukas?” Viktor frowned. The Doukas family was much like the Manzano’s except they originated from Greece. Tony and Carmine had been rivals for years. “Your family loyalty didn’t last long. Did the Manzanos stop paying you?”
“Bah.” Giorgio flicked his hand, wandering over and leaning against the alley wall, before pulling out a packet of cigarettes. “Everyone over at the big house are running around like headless chickens, aren’t they. No one knows who’s controlling the money. The family are wailing and carrying on, trying to order people to storm the damn jail. It’s ridiculous. Tony’s lawyer has been around, bringing messages from jail about how Tony is still in charge, and he’ll beat his murder charge, but yeah, gossip from the jail is that he’s going crazy. All he keeps talking about is ghosts. I prefer a more peaceful life with a solid paycheck.”
“And you think you’ll get that from Carmine? Good luck with that.” Viktor winced as he felt Ant getting closer. His poor mate must’ve run from the office. “You’d best fuck off. My mate’s on his way. He’s not happy and when he sees this shirt, he’s going to be even more upset.”
“Hey, no need for me to run. I’ll wait and get an introduction. It saves me saying the same thing twice.” Giorgio lit a cigarette and blew a puff of smoke in Viktor’s direction. “From what I hear, this guy you call a mate is only a little guy, and it’s not like he can use his magical woo-woo on the whole alley, like he did with his house. Mr. Doukas wants to speak to him. Unlike Tony, he can see value in having a magical being who knows a lot of judges on his side.”
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Viktor moved to the opposite wall as Ant came running around the corner, Able at his side. Viktor saw it – the moment Ant clocked the blood on his shirt, and the sneer of the man standing opposite him.
“Able. Restrain.” Ant pointed in Giorgio’s direction.
The change in the dog was instant. Gone was the happy German Shepherd smile and wagging tail. Able’s hackles went up as he showed his teeth and he didn’t break a stride as he sprinted in Giorgio’s direction, his growl loud enough to be heard on the street.
“What the fuck?” Giorgio threw his cigarette on the ground as he started running down the alley, away from the advancing dog. “Call him off,” he yelled. “Call him off. Aargh.” There was a thud as Able leaped and landed on his back. “Get him off me!”
“Six blocks.” Ant’s chest heaved as he stood in front of Viktor, totally ignoring Able and Giorgio. “Six blocks I ran because I was worried about you.” He poked at Viktor’s stomach. “I felt the pain when that knife went in. I felt it as if someone did it to me. How could you be so careless!”
