The Fall Of The Fairy Tale Prince

An MM Shifter Human Short Story

by Lisa Oliver

In the huge city of Houston, Charlie was lonely. Oh, he had friends and he did his best not to show any of the jealousy he might have felt as they all paired off with gorgeous hunks. But while his friends were all talking about romantic plans for the upcoming Valentine's day, his only plans for the day included curling up with his cat Winston, and binge watching his favorite television shows.

Lex was in a bind, a serious one. His father had given him six weeks to find a bond or true mate and present that person on Valentine's Day. With three days to go, Lex was running out of options. He needed a paranormal person - someone who could understand his issues, and who could handle staying with him long enough to appease his father. But when he spotted a cute human walk into the bar he was drowning his sorrows in, his tiger stirred. The human had paranormal friends.

Unfortunately, Lex puts his big foot in his mouth within minutes of meeting Charlie. If it wasn't for Charlie's friends, his situation might have been worse. But when Terry and Zander, Sully and Q, and Roy and Richard all pitch in to help, Lex might have finally found a way to win his mate and get his father off his back for good.

This is a short story of roughly 19,000 words, but it is complete. My regular readers will recognize the characters from my A&O books, Dancing Around the Cop and Change of Plans, however this book can be read as a standalone. This story has not changed from the Valentine Giveaway run through Prolific Works last month, so if you read it then, this is the same story.

This is an MM true mates story including intimate scenes. It is intended for adults only.

Excerpt:

My gods, oh, my gods, oh my gods, he’s just like a fairy tale
prince. Charlie couldn’t believe his own luck. Here he was,
dancing with the handsomest man in Houston, and the guy
was looking at him as though he was lunch. Sure, Charlie
knew Lex was probably only looking to get his dick sucked,
and would be gone from Charlie’s life before he’d
swallowed, but Lex had spoken nicely, he wasn’t copping a
feel, and Charlie was determined to milk the moment for all
he could. He was in heaven.
“So,” Lex said, swirling him around, and keeping him away
from other dancers. “What do you do for a living?”
Huh? Not hook up talk. But Charlie was happy to play along.
“I’m a freelance graphic designer, I work from home. I’ve
just been working on some web graphics for Max, one of
the friends you stole me from. What do you do?”
“A little bit of this, and a little bit of that,”

Lex swirled him
again and Charlie struggled to keep from stepping on the
man’s boots. “My father has been at me for ages to join the
family firm, but I enjoy traveling and seeing the sights. I
don’t enjoy being tied down.”
Now that warning was more like the behavior of a hook up.
“You don’t have to worry about me tying you down,” Charlie
said quickly. “I heard you saying you were only in town on
business. When do you leave?”

Lisa Oliver's first fiction book was The Reluctant Wolf, book one in the Cloverleah series. Since then she's written more than ninety other titles spanning a number of different series including Bound and Bonded, Stockton Wolves, Balance, The God's Made Me Do it, City Dragons, The Necromancer's Smile, and the Alpha and Omega series. A huge fan of the true mate trope, Lisa's books are all paranormal, all M/M (although a few M/M/M have crept in too) and all have an HEA.

When not writing, Lisa can be found with her nose in a book. Her adult children and grandchildren have found the best way to get her off the computer is to offer her chocolate.
