When fifteen-year-old Devin Hughes created his phantom lover, he never imagined that Brice would materialize in the flesh ten years later. Convinced that the mind-blowing encounters he had with his hunky specter were nothing more than fevered hallucinations, Dev pushes it all to the back of his mind.
Sparks fly when Devin meets his newest advertising client, Englishman Matthew Lyons, but he continues to struggle with his “hurt them before they hurt you” attitude.
When an obsessed Brice finds out about Devin’s new love interest, his rage reaches an all-time high. The two men have ruined all his plans, and they will both pay the price… with their lives.
Can Devin and Matthew find a way to banish Brice forever? Will the satanic powers of this maniacal demon be too much for them? Who will win and who will lose?

College Sophomore Winter Break
“What the hell is this, Devin? Why was that boy kissing you? Dammit, son, I expect an answer! What is going on here?” Kenneth Hughes demanded.
With his eyes cast downward, Dev felt his current boyfriend release him and whisper, “Sorry my departure wasn’t soon enough, babe. I think I better get the hell out. Looks like you’ve got some explaining to do, and I’m pretty sure my presence here will only make it worse.”
He heard the front door behind him close as his parents stood frozen in place just inside the entrance, his father’s face tight with rage and his mother’s crumpling in astonishment. Thankfully, they hadn’t come home any earlier, or they would have caught him and Steven naked and making out on the couch in the living room. Why they were home now was a mystery. He hadn’t expected them till dinnertime.READ MORE
“I’m waiting for answers, Devin Hughes! You’ve got to the c-count of three to explain yourself, or s-so help me God, I don’t care how old you are, I-I’m still capable of t-tanning your hide,” Kenneth sputtered.
Unable to come up with a remotely plausible excuse for what they’d walked in on, Dev realized the cat was out of the bag. Time to confess and come out of the closet.
“What I was doing, Father, was kissing my boyfriend, Steven, goodbye. Even though I’ve tried, I found I don’t like dating females. I’m gay. I prefer guys over girls.”
The June Cleaver imitation his mother, Barbara, silently performed as tears streamed down her face and she wrung the handles of her purse between her clenched fists was classic. Even her outdated hairstyle resembled that of the 1960s TV character. And his father stood, with arms crossed over his chest, lips smashed together tightly as he played the part of Ward Cleaver to academy award winning perfection.
“You’re gay? Impossible! No son of mine could possibly be a fag! Your older brother isn’t gay. He’s married to a lovely gal.”
“Okay, I’m not gay, Dad. Pretend you never saw what you did. If you don’t mind, I’ll just head to my room. I’ll be returning to the dorm tomorrow.” Devin knew it was useless, his parents would never understand, nor would they ever stop shoving his brother’s world-class achievements— at least they considered them world class —down his throat on a continual basis.
As he turned to head to his bedroom, the ruthless, close-fisted punch that snapped his head back took him by complete surprise. His mother’s shrill scream pierced his eardrums as she tried to calm her husband down.COLLAPSE

I must make a disclaimer: I am not a reader of paranormal romance, nor do I usually read outright erotica. So when the two come together, as they do in Harper Jewel’s MIRROR OF OBSESSION, I can only marvel at the wonderful, wicked ways of this first-time writer of gay erotica.
A gay man whose family rejected him because of his sexual “deviance,” Devin turned years ago to a make-believe lover, a man named Brice, or Hellgut. As the story opens, Devin has turned an unfaithful lover out of his apartment; and his towering anger awakens the man in the mirror, his imagined paramour Brice. The man in the mirror, however, is more than a figment of his imagination. He is actually a minion of Satan himself whose mission it is to turn Devin into a willing convert for his master. Their sexual encounters are almost brutal, yet satisfying in their explosive release.
If Brice is the damnation, Matt is the salvation. This new man in Devin’s life is a dream come true: caring, handsome, talented … and in love with him. Their whirlwind affair is the stuff of fantasy, and the two make plans to marry.
This is the story of the conflict between a demonic obsession and a truly loving relationship. The scenes are wildly erotic, whether between Devin and Hellgut, or between Devin and his sought-for love Matt.
Who will win the soul of this man? You will have to read it to find out.
I rate the story a 5, based on the pure wickedness of imagination and unique vision of Harper Jewel.

When I started reading this book I didn’t quiet know what to expect, the blurb is very intriguing, making the book sound interesting to me and something I wanted to read. I have not read anything by this author before this book. The writing style itself is very easy to read, flowing perfectly, the storyline is a good mix of contemporary and paranormal, making it very different. A good different as it worked beautifully.
15 year old Devin creates his dream boyfriend, he thinks he is a make believe guy of his own fantasies. The only problem is he doesn’t go away. After an unhappy break up with his boyfriend things get very strange for Devin.
Matthew meets Devin when he is over from England, it is in lust at first sight. Matthew is very English, some of his sayings made me giggle in a good way.
I loved the mix of paranormal meets contemporary, its not something I have read before. The author did a great job of balancing the two without loosing the story with over done world building. I am really impressed by this. Lust does turn to love really quickly, this works well with both MC’s. The sex is super hot and there is quite a lot of it, saying that it wasn’t over the top, it blended nicely in with the plot.
The ending was good, it explained any loose ends and questions I still had. I loved the epilogue, it finished the whole book off. I do like a book with a good beginning and interesting middle and one that ends. This ticked all of those boxes…
Overall an interesting read that had me gripped from start to finish. I will defiantly be reading more from this author in the future.
I absolutely love a good paranormal read, and this one was just off the charts hot!! Devin "created" an imaginary lover, Brice, as a teenager. They shared some pretty hot nights~ but was it just his imagination or was it real?? After being cheated on by his ex, Brice is back, and once again, it's hot hot hot hot!!!! When Devin meets Matthew, it's an instant attraction, but old wounds keep Devin from fully opening his heart. Brice is less than pleased about Matthew, making it known who he truly is and what he intends to do. I don't want to give anything away, but things get "hot as hell" 😉 this book is a sexy, hot thrill ride~ don't miss out!!
