Aidan and the Alien Invasion

“To recap what we know at this point for those of you who just joined us: Starting mid-morning on the East Coast of the United States, cities began reporting gold spacecraft flying into view and hovering overhead. They moved into position and remain there to this hour, appearing to have flown to every, or almost every, city with a sizable population. No violence has occurred. No attack. And no communication has come from these craft. We do not know their origin, even to the point of being unable to confirm if they came from outer space or perhaps a nation or force here on Earth. The US Air Force has grounded its aircraft for fear of provoking an attack. Reporters had to travel outside Washington, DC, so they could send messages. They confirmed the president is being briefed on the matter and remains safe. She is scheduled to issue a response later this afternoon, but no one knows exactly how because of the one known negative influence coming from this invasion. In the cities with a spaceship, all electronics have stopped working. Cell phones, electricity grids, anything electronic has failed, including most car systems. However, in regions outside of urban areas, everything continues to function as usual. Which, for full disclosure, has allowed me to broadcast to you. My home base in Detroit, Michigan, has lost communication but several from my team and I fled outside the city. We’re keeping our exact location a secret at this time, but we have set up shop in a rural radio station. Many of these older systems are equipped to send out signals from small station to small station to keep the news cycle going, though we know vast numbers of people are unable to hear our report.”

“This can’t be good—” They shut him up again before Aidan could further expand on his feelings.

“Unfortunately, that sums up our knowledge at this hour. We can communicate with other places in remote areas, but they know even less than we do. Larger places under the influence of the UFOs can’t get news out. We’re left with the few people and instances of information trickling out as people flee. We don’t know the aims or demands of these craft, and as I said, we don’t even know their origin.”

“Seriously, we gotta talk.” Aidan glanced at Ellie and then Jarvis to see if they would stop him. “Sounds like he told us everything he knows anyway. Should we chat?”

Ellie reached over and turned down the sound. The newscaster’s deep voice became a murmur in the background as Ellie blew out a breath.

“Sounds like we need to wait before we’ll learn anything else.” Jarvis ran a hand through his hair. “Maybe those things will tell us something. Make a demand. Who knows? We better keep going.”
