About The Book

Perfection has its price.

Eric Tillman is looking for a way out. Born into a poor family, the once starving artist has spent his life dreaming of a home where his kids could escape screaming landlords and the sting of poverty. So, when his husband Mike, a house-flipper with a jeweller’s eye for abandoned places, discovers a strange, but exciting old house in upstate New York, it feels like the perfect answer to all their prayers.

But once the family moves in, it isn’t long before Eric learns that some chances are too costly to take. For this house has standards it lives by, expectations which must be met. And on the long, relentless road between perfection and salvation…

Some doors lead only to ruin.

The Review

Michael Tallman has found the ideal house for his husband Eric and their two girls. It was once occupied by Deirdre, Lucas, Margaret and Millicent Miller, and has stood for seventy years in upstate New York. It’s a fixer-upper, and Michael is enthusiastic about doing the repairs. He’s quite upset with Frank Welker, the estate salesperson, and feels Welker didn’t do his job at keeping up the house.

Eric is excited at first. Their two daughters will both get their own rooms. Emily, the oldest of the two, is a good girl and an honor roll student, getting ready to enter high school. Iris, at eight years old, is a little more rambunctious. She likes adventure and always has her sword by her side. For Eric, they are both the love of his heart.

As Eric has time to really absorb the house situation, he becomes afraid that they don’t have the finances to repair the house. Then the terror escalates as eerie things start to happen.  Michael starts to change, and the girls are frightened. Michael has moved the old paintings and furniture from the basement to the house, and it just doesn’t sit right to Eric, who is an artist. The more Eric tries to take his little family away from the house, the worse the situation gets terrifying. Will he be able to save the ones he loves?

A dark, terrifying, haunted house tale, where the eeriness and tension build quickly at every turn. The reader can feel in their bones the urgency that Eric is feeling, as he tries to save his family. Somewhere Quiet, Full of Light is very well written, and keeps the reader on edge as it drags you deep into the lives of these characters. Read it with all the lights on. Highly recommended – an outstanding paranormal story!

Hi, I’m Maryann, I started life in New York, moved to New Hampshire and in 1965 uprooted again to Sacramento, California. Once I retired I moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 2011 and just moved back to Sacramento in March of 2018. My son, his wife and step-daughter flew out to Florida and we road tripped back so they got to see sights they have never seen. New Orleans and the Grand Canyon were the highlights. Now I am back on the west coast again to stay! From a young age Ialways liked to read.

I remember going to the library and reading the “Doctor Dolittle” books by Hugh Lofting. Much later on became a big fan of the classics, Edgar Alan Poe, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and as time went by Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury and Stephen Kingand many other authors.

My first M/M shifter book I read was written by Jan Irving the “Uncommon Cowboys” series from 2012. She was the first author I ever contacted and sent an email to letting her know how much I liked this series. Sometime along the way I read “Zero to the Bone”by Jane Seville, I think just about everyone has read this book!

As it stands right now I’m really into mysteries, grit, gore and “triggers” don’t bother me. But if a blurb piques my interest I will read the book.

My kindle collection eclectic and over three thousand books and my Audible collection is slowly growing. I have both the kindle and audible apps on my ipod, ipads, and MAC. So there is never an excuse not to be listening or reading.

I joined Goodreads around 2012 and started posting reviews. One day a wonderful lady, Lisa Horan of The Novel Approach, sent me an email to see if I wanted to join her review group. Joining her site was such an eye opener. I got introduce to so many new authors that write for the LGBTQ genre. Needless to say, it was heart breaking when it ended.

But I found a really great site, QRI and it’s right here in Sacramento. Last year at QSAC I actually got to meet Scott Coatsworth, Amy Lane and Jeff Adams.
