About The Book

Can a pirate whose life is the sea and a vampire who cannot cross water ever find a way to be together?

Clifton lives for his ship, his crew, and the ocean, and there’s not much that frightens him. Except possibly a certain vampire. After their too-brief rendezvous, he leaves New Orleans for a short trip that he manages to extend for some six months.

Life on Le Rêve is easier than facing what he feels for the Dáire Malone.

As the one who was left behind, Malone imagines all sorts of reasons for Clifton’s desertion. To distract himself, he looks for ways to destroy the evil book that was a relic of their previous adventure. The book is impervious to his efforts, though its power is tempting.

When Clifton runs out of excuses, he returns to New Orleans and the men discover their feelings are true. This time, though, their interlude is ended by something more dire than Clifton’s fears. Clifton has crossed the wrong man, and to save him, Malone must do the one thing he cannot.

He must board Le Rêve and follow his lover, no matter what the cost.

The Reviews

Tony:

The Pirate’s Vampire is the follow on story from The Vampire’s Pirate and takes place six months on. Daire Malone, the vampire, is beginning to doubt the feelings he thought Thomas Clifton shared with him, due to his prolonged absence. He also has the cursed book from the first part of the series to look after, the book that refuses to be destroyed. His household has grown, so it would appear he is staying in New Orleans. What he does not know is that Thomas is on his way back to him but bringing a whole lot of trouble with him as a result of his career choice.

Nearly all the characters from The Vampire’s Pirate make an appearance. plus a few now ones. Some are more welcome than others, at least from Daire’s viewpoint. There are betrayals to take on board. and a journey across water to cope with for the vampires when a rescue has to be launched.

The characters are well drawn and the story moves along at a good pace – an excellent companion to the first book, and it sets up the possibility of a follow on, as well as having a nice happy for now finish.

Linda:

This is the second book in the series, and unfortunately I did not read book one. Although I am sure I missed out on some important details about the MC’s, I did not feel lost.

Six months earlier, Thomas Clifton, the captain of the ship Le Reve, a privateer, and Daire Malone, a vampire, met – a meeting that seemed destined to be a relationship, until Thomas went back to sea. Vampires are unable to cross water, so for six months both men were separated.

Malone lives with his daughter Dorothea and her friend Libbie, a werewolf. Despite the long separation, Malone still misses Clifton. His biggest concern is getting rid of an evil book which fire, holy water, silver and water can’t seem to destroy. The only option is to give the book to Clifton, to chain and drop in the middle of the ocean. When he returns.

When Clifton finally arrives in New Orleans with a ship full of valuables taken from a Spanish Galleon. he reconnects base with Malone. The captain of the Spanish ship has followed Clifton to New Orleans, and that promises trouble. Clifton also discovers that his agent is ignoring him, adding to the growing danger.

Libbie is considered the queen of the werewolves, but she and Dorothea are attacked by strange wolves, also adding to their already large list of enemies. When Clifton and Malone meet up again, their feelings for each other have not diminished. But Clifton’s first love is the sea, something Malone cannot join him in, so that signals more long distance in the future.

When one of Clifton’s men betrays him, it will cost him more than treasure. It will mean another a separation from Malone, a separation that was not planned and could be deadly. Clifton is on the move, and it’s in a place Malone can’t follow. Can he throw all the perceived dangers out the window and risk it all for the man he loves?

A paranormal lover’s dream, with vampires, werewolves and pirates, all set in the 1800’s. Betrayal, lies and secrets and a book so evil that it can’t be destroyed make this a fascinating read.

Four stars.

The Reviewers

Tony is an Englishman living amongst the Welsh and the Other Folk in the mountains of Wales. He lives with his partner of thirty-six years, four dogs, two ponies, various birds, and his bees. He is a retired lecturer and a writer of no renown but that doesn’t stop him enjoying what he used to think of as ‘sensible’ fantasy and sf. He’s surprised to find that if the story is well written and has likeable characters undergoing the trails of life, i.e. falling in love, falling out of love, having a bit of nooky (but not all the time), fending off foes, aliens and monsters, etc., he’ll be happy as a sandperson who has just offloaded a wagon of sand at the going market price. As long as there’s a story, he’s in. He aims to write fair and honest reviews. If he finds he is not the target reader he’ll move on.
