About The Book
It was supposed to be a stranger, not her boss…
On paper, Danielle Higgs is a quiet, reserved, unremarkable homebody. As the devoted personal assistant for Victor Hughes, owner and master craftsman behind V.W. Hughes Furniture, Danielle has little time for anything else—or so she’s happy to let everyone believe.
At least once a week, Danielle sneaks down to the mysterious Cherry Street glory hole, where she can indulge her wildest anonymous fantasies. Here, no one can see her. They can’t judge her for how eager she is to be used. It may not provide much intimacy, but given that Danielle has been unable to overcome her immense respect and adoration for Mr. Hughes over the past three years, she isn’t looking for a relationship anyway.
One fateful night, Danielle has an electric encounter on Cherry Street with a stranger. He brings her to exciting heights, fulfills her every need, and after he’s gone, she can’t get him off her mind.
When she discovers that this mysterious stranger and Mr. Hughes are one and the same, a new workplace temptation will threaten to overwhelm them both.
Release is an 73,000-word erotic romance novel with high heat, low conflict, and no bleak moment. It features a bi M/F main pairing with a 20+ year age gap and a single POV.
This book is intended only for adult audiences. Content notes are available in the book’s front matter and on the author’s website.
The Review
Thirty-two-year-old Danielle Higgs has been the personal assistant to fifty-five-year-old Victor Huges, owner and master craftsman of V.W. Hughes Furniture, for three years. Danielle devotes her life to taking care of her boss, making sure everything he needs is provided for. When not at work, she spends her time at home alone, except for when she needs a release, and goes to Cherry Street, a place with a building affording her the use of a glory hole.
The glory hole allows her to indulge in sex with total anonymity, no names, no faces and no voices – just satisfying a sexual need. One night, while awaiting a partner on the other side of the wall, she will find her life changing in ways she never expected. The man on the other side reminds her of her boss – his voice is the voice she is very familiar with, and she has had a crush on him for a long time.
Victor discovers that his personal assistant is the woman he had sex with the night before when he sees her wearing the same thigh band the next day. He apologizes and assures her that her job is still secure, and he will not do anything to make her feel unsafe. Despite what he says, he sends a text to Danielle, and since he can’t see her via texting, she gets the courage to speak freely and begins sexting with him.
Danielle and Victor are troubled people. Danielle’s boyfriend of eight years did everything he could to put her down and insult her for her constant need for sex. Victor had been married for ten years to his college friend Greg, but it was a marriage lacking the most important thing – love. Both have both had difficult pasts and deserve happiness and love. But will they find it with each other?
The author calls this an age-difference romance, but that’s common these days, and a romance between an employer and his employee is a common occurrence so neither fact made much of an impact on me. The book revolves around Danielle and Victor and sex, and their personalities make it difficult to warm to them. I did enjoy the story, but it could have used more real drama.
