About The Book

Conflict and Confederation

One by one the Righteous Order of Piety Purists seizes the governments of settled planets and colonies. The Dominatrix Lady Cassandra, exiled from her home, struggles to shelter her slaves and clients from the Pietist quest to confine citizens to a sexless, joyless existence.

Liberation of a devoted collaborator spirals into a violent confrontation. To protect her allies, Cassandra and her slaves capture Piety Purist militants disguised as missionaries. But, the Pietist prisoners’ presence aboard Truth, endangers both crew and spaceship.

Pursued by ships equipped with sophisticated tracking and weaponry, Spyder uses his wits, his crew’s talents, and everything he can demand of Truth to keep them all alive.

A BDSM erotica space opera, Spyder’s Truth pairs dramatic adventures on worlds light years away in a far distant future with the age-old battle between purity and pleasure—and those who use one as a weapon against the other.

The Review

Spyder’s Truth (The Lady & The Spyder Book 2) continues the exciting adventures of Spyder, his Dominatrix, Lady Cassandra, and the rest of the crew of the spaceship Truth as they attempt to counter the effects of the Righteous Order of Piety Purists’ overtaking of existing governments. You could possibly read this as a standalone novel, but you’ll understand all of the dynamics of the relationships and background stories of the characters much better if you begin with the first in the series, Spyder’s Trouble

The author, Korin I. Dushayl has created a universe in which there are many planets, each of which is succumbing to the puritanical evil of The Piety Purists. The Dominatrix Lady Cassandra is using her far-reaching influence to try to counter the oppression of the Pietists. Using BDSM dynamics as the basis for the relationships between Lady Cassandra and the crew of Truth, the author tells the tale of this band of misfits who have discover their self-truth and have chosen to commit their loyalty to their Lady.

This is a well-crafted space opera, with fast-paced story-telling, lots of action, and some graphic on-page violence that is relative to the story, rather than gratuitous gore. As in the first book in the series, Spyder’s Truth explores the variety of relationships humans find themselves in: sexual, in all its variations; platonic; familial, including found family, as well as how our self-perceptions and self-acceptance can affect those relationships.

There is explicit, on-page sex within the BDSM dynamics, with a variety of sexual pairings. Included in those situations are consensual sex with more than one partner; consensual non-consensual sex; corporal punishment which can include paddling and whipping; and frequent examples of orgasm denial. The sexual content is very well-written and erotic, and shows the intricacies of the relationships between Lady Cassandra and her crew. It is also a foil for the extreme views of the Piety Purists who are attempting to outlaw anything that is not heterosexual, monogamous, reproductive sex. The Lady and The Spyder is a fabulous series, with great world-building and excellent characters who are complex, with fascinating backstories. Spyder’s Truth is not the story you pick up, read a few pages, and put down. Once you’ve begun, you’ll find it hard to stop reading until you’ve finished the entire story.

The Reviewer

I’m an avid reader who loves pretty much all genres except math textbooks. As a kid, my parents exposed me to everything from fairies, hobbits, and dragons to the biographies of interesting people around the world, interspersed with poetry, plays, and music. Into adulthood, I spent a lot of years with my nose buried in various textbooks. Now, I read whatever grabs my fancy.
