About The Book

What do you do when you’re locked out of your ex’s basement apartment twenty minutes before sunrise?

Seduce the neighbour, of course.

Stranded for the day in a shabby apartment corridor, the vampire Aserad turns his charm (read: unbridled curiosity) on Selan, the unsuspecting human next door. Then he discovers he actually likes this strange spreadsheet nerd—and Selan might have secrets of his own.

The Vampire Stayed for Breakfast is part of Parunthupuram Days, a new urban fantasy series set in a queernorm city with desi vibes.

The Review

This was a delightful short read. The author does a wonderful job of creating an engaging fantasy world with captivating characters. So much happens in less than thirty-two pages. I learned another word for peppers which is a joyous occasion because peppers deserve a multitude of descriptors. I found myself worrying about Aserad’s vampire skills, and I decided that I want Selan to teach me how to cook.

The interactions between Aserad and Selan are equal parts steamy and sweet. The connection between them is easy to feel. Aserad and Selan both have some mystery surrounding them so another story that explored more of their background would be a welcome treat. If you need an entertaining pick-me-up, I recommend sitting down with this short story and a cup of tea.

Four stars.

The Reviewer

Aethena lives in the Pacific Northwest and vacations in the desert as often as possible. She is allergic to garlic, sleeps during the day whenever possible, and breaks out in an allergic rash when exposed to excessive sunlight. She has a degree in engineering, works at a comic book store, and goes for long bike rides at night during the full moon because of the sun allergy. Aethena was forced to switch to mostly e-books and audio books when the last floor to ceiling bookcase started to overflow. She is on her fifth e-reader, and is contemplating using her engineering degree to design an e-reader that can withstand her capacity for destruction.
