Mia Kerick

Mia Kerick is the mother of four exceptional children—one at Harvard Law School, another a professional dancer, a third studying at Mia’s alma mater, Boston College, and her lone son heading to Syracuse. She has published more than twenty books of LGBTQ romance when not editing National Honor Society essays, offering opinions on college and law school applications, helping to create dance bios, and reviewing scholarship essays. Her husband of twenty-five years has been told by many that he has the patience of Job, but don’t ask Mia about this, as it’s a sensitive subject.

Mia focuses her stories on the emotional growth of troubled people in complex relationships. She has a great affinity for the tortured hero in literature, and as a teen, Mia filled spiral-bound notebooks with tales of tortured heroes and stuffed them under her mattress for safekeeping. She is thankful to her publishers for providing her with an alternate place to stash her stories.

Her books have been featured in Kirkus Reviewsmagazine, and have won Rainbow Awards for Best Transgender Contemporary Romance and Best YA Lesbian Fiction, a Reader Views’ Book by Book Publicity Literary Award, the Jack Eadon Award for Best Book in Contemporary Drama, an Indie Fab Award, and a Royal Dragonfly Award for Cultural Diversity, among other awards.

Mia Kerick is a social liberal and cheers for each and every victory made in the name of human rights. Her only major regret: never having taken typing or computer class in school, destining her to a life consumed with two-fingered pecking and constant prayer to the Gods of Technology. Ultra-preppy Liam McAllister and purple-haired high school dropout Dimitri Cirillo know a thing or two about the whole "opposites attract" adage. The two men wouldn't likely be friends, much less lovers, yet their mutual attraction is all-consuming.   When Liam, heir to the McAllister Construction fortune, falls for a heavily inked go-go dancer known as Dimmy, he realizes it might take his all-important image down a notch (or ten) to admit this romance to his upper-crust family. Liam is sure this unsuitable pairing won't go over well, especially with his father, Colin – who is obsessed with building a family legacy.   Dimmy sees Liam as a man who will take care of his needs in a manner his callous father Gregory never did. Demanding that his son earn his keep, Gregory insists that Dimmy dances provocatively each night at his seedy gay bar. By day, Dimmy provides masseuse services (and more) to relative strangers, for which his disreputable father confiscates the cash. Though Gregory is far from an ideal role model, Dimmy lives in hope of receiving his father’s rare smile.   Windermere is a small town, and unsurprisingly, Colin McAllister and Gregory Cirillo’s business interests clash, causing their sons’ lives to dangerously collide.   Dimmy reluctantly lets his guard down to trust in his white knight, but Liam still struggles with fulfilling his duty to his father. He hides his blossoming relationship with Dimmy, who doesn’t fit the bill for a suitable partner, leaving Dimmy at risk. When the right side of the tracks meets the oh-so-very wrong side, lives are shattered.

Summary: When they say be careful what you wish for, do you pay attention? Neither did Oliver Tunstead. Oliver wishes for nothing more than to get his mind off his crappy bartending job, pile of debt big enough to swallow him whole, and playboy ex-boyfriend/boss who refuses to back off. Too bad distractions, like the hot little convertible he has his eye on, cost megabucks. And Oliver is flat broke. Renting the spare bedroom in his rundown beachfront cottage is his only option to pick up the cash he needs--a risky proposition, as Oliver is the polar opposite of a people-person. When he responds to a bizarre ad in the Waterfront Gazette seeking summer housing, he gets more than he bargained for. But Oliver can cope... After all, how much harm can a single quirky tenant do to his tightly guarded life in three short months? Where Oliver is a loner by design, urban cowboy Bodie is a loner by necessity. Family trouble long ago dropkicked him onto the path of a lifelong wanderer. This changes when Bodie moves into the tiny beachfront cottage and starts working the door at Oliver's bar. Despite Oliver and Bodie's nearly paralyzing instinct to avoid commitment, they fall into a wary romance. And to their surprise, life as a couple is sweetly satisfying; that is, until their jealous boss devises a cruel plan to destroy the tentative bond they've built. True to form, Bodie hits the road, leaving Oliver to lick his wounds alone. Can these wounded souls defy their urge to flee and fight for love? **Trigger Warning: mention of childhood sexual molestation of adult character, graphic physical violence, off-page coerced sexual interaction.
