Kiyoshi awakes from a fever aware of two things. One, he is not in the home he can for some reason only vaguely recall. Two, he has fallen for Shelly, the man who cared for him through his fever. Shelly is as enigmatic as the island he has found himself on. With few answers about who he is, Shelly's own identity, how he came to be there with Shelly, and just what this strange place is, Kiyoshi comes to accept just one thing. He and Shelly are meant to be no matter what befalls them. They are tied together by fate, all the way to what just may be the end of their world.

He chuckled, taking his lips from mine to say, a small smile touching the corners, "Finally… just you and me."

"Just me and you," I echoed, smoothing my hands over his wet hair as I pushed the dripping tendrils from his face. "Finally!"

I found his mouth with my own again, my tongue pressing slightly on his lower lip to request invitation. He accepted, one of his hands sliding round to the small of my back while the other buried in the hair at the base of my skull. I sent him a light sigh that melted into a moan as Shelly deepened the kiss, his tongue slipping between my lips to stroke my tongue, flick across the roof of my mouth, and slowly massage my tongue a second time.

God, it feels like heaven just to be with him, kissing him like this, with such abandon!

As the waves carried us away from the beach, I smiled at him, pulling my lips from his to whisper, "I like this."

Shelly's arms tightened around me as his lips widened in a great smile that reaches those beautiful expressive eyes of his. "I like this, as well."

I wrapped my arms about his shoulders, nuzzling his nose with my own, dropping a kiss on its end. "Mmmm…"

He dropped kisses along the line of my jaw to my ear, saying next to it, "I have fallen in love with ye, Arishima Kiyoshi. It be my wish to stay here with you… in this World’s End… forever."

My coppery eyes snapped to his honeyed chocolate, grown large from his confession of the heart. "You have? You—You do?"

Shelly nodded, brushing the lightest of kisses across my parted lips. "I have… and I do… if ye’ll have me?"

"If I’ll have—Shelly! If I will—of course I’ll have you! I am—" I laughed joyously, throwing my head back as I hugged him closer still, if possible. Lifting my eyes back to his sparkling mocha ones, I nodded, murmuring as I frame his beatific face with my hands, "I am in so love with you, Shelly Gwynne! I don’t even remember where I end and you begin, nor do I wish to! I’d love nothing more than to stay here with you forever… to be yours now, forever and after I die."

The hand at the small of my back moved between us to the breast pocket on the inside of his vest, withdrawing a very wet, small leather pouch that he handed to me. "I made this… for ye."

"Hold me so I can open it." I took the gift from him, releasing his hand to slide back around my waist as I untied the leather drawstring.

Carefully tugging it open to dump its contents into my hand, I gasped as I saw a silver ring glinting in the fading sunlight and seawater. Tiny intricate designs swirled around the outside of the band while Shelly had engraved seven words on the inside: For my love… my heart is yours. Tears fell down my cheeks as I raised a soft gaze to his matching one. "My heart is yours as well!"

About the Author

M. LeAnne Phoenix would tell you that the worst time of her life was the two years that she attempted to take off from writing.  If you asked her to explain exactly why she did such a thing, you would most likely get the mad attempt to arch an eyebrow like her dad and then a shake of the head as she told you it was unlucky to speak of such things.  Suffice it to say, it will never happen again!

Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas in the mid-1970’s, Ms. Phoenix was young and wild (and even free!) during the crazy wondrous decade known as the 1980’s and the even crazier but now grungy decade of the 1990’s.  Music is second only to the muses that live and breathe to fill her mind with beautiful men, and music always helps them to tell their stories.  She is never without her iPod or her computer no matter where she goes, although, she does like to hike and take pictures of the sky and the moon, and even the occasional shot of the sun through the branches of a tree.

An avid cat lover, Ms. Phoenix has been owned by many throughout her life, though her current owner is one Lily-Rose, who really would like for her to step away from the keyboard and pay her some attention!  After all, hasn’t she earned it?
