“They still haven’t broken through into half of the
ruins here,” Jacob declared. “Albert Speer, Hitler’s armaments
minister, said that the tunnels here were meant for the Fuhrer
headquarters. Von Below and Warlimont all said the same
things in their memoirs—but I can tell you it was total
“Well, I’ve always believed that understanding the
truth is a three-edged sword—your side, their side, and the
truth,” Rafe said firmly.
They continued walking through the dimly lit tunnel,
going further and further into the hillside fortress.
“I’ve seen the remains of the Wolf’s Lair, and this
whole area is set up completely differently. This was never
meant to be a headquarters of any type. You can tell the area
inside and out is set up for experimentation,” Jacob said,
pointing to different areas of the tunnel.

The areas the Thule and Vril Societies used haven’t
ever been found, have they?” Alec asked.
“Not yet, Alec. There are over five and a half miles of
tunnels. But who knows? Maybe you’ll be the one to find it.”
Jacob placed his arm around Alec’s shoulders, shaking him
slightly in good humor.
Alec smiled back at him, but a soft exhalation caught
his notice. Rafe was looking at them, and seemed—concerned?
Maybe even jealous?

“Give me a minute, you two. I just want to go ahead to
make sure the lighting is on in the next section.” Jacob dashed
off into the darkness of the tunnel ahead.
“You two seem to be hitting it off quite well.” Rafe
looked down into Alec’s ice-blue eyes.
“Yeah, Jacob is a nice fella. He’s very knowledgeable
about the Vril. He was telling me that…”
“I didn’t mean his perspicacity, Alexander. I meant
Just then, Jacob came running back from the darkness
of the tunnel. “All set, gentlemen!”
“Great. Let's go, Rafe!” Alec said eagerly.
Alec waved to Rafe to follow himself and Jacob. Jacob
placed his arm around Alec’s shoulder and led him away.
Rafe grunted but followed the other into the tunnel.
Alec heard him catching up just behind them, but Alec’s
attention was fixed on some rusted old equipment in one of
the side rooms off the main tunnel. There was a loud “clunk”
behind them.
Alec turned around to see Rafe rubbing his shin.
“Careful, Rafe. You’re always so damn nimble. What’s up?”
Alec asked, concerned.
“Nothing, Alexander. I’m just… distracted. What have
you two found?” Rafe asked, coming closer to Alec, placing his
muscular arm around his shoulders.
“These gauges here were designed to keep the air
pressure in the facility higher than the air pressure from
outside. This was to keep gas or smoke from flowing inside.”
“Jacob, this is great and all, but I want to know more
about the Vril side of things that occurred in the facility. More
about the occult views the Nazis had, and their supposed
wonder weapons?”
“Well, Alec, Project Reise was mainly a Thule-run
facility. A lot of the machinery you see here was made in the
small town of Czersk. We’ve recorded strange energy
emanating from the area’s surroundings. A lot of minerals
from there have been added to the metal in the machinery here.
What the reason is, I still don’t know for sure.”
“What happens to be your best guess?” Alec asked.
“The working hypothesis is that the energy from the
minerals can boost the power of the machinery fifty-fold from
normal. But we’re not sure how it works. Sometimes, no matter
how much you investigate and search, you may never know the
answers you’re looking for.” Jacob gazed off into the dark.
Rafe cleared his throat. “Well, you two, I think we
should call it quits for today. We need to get back to the hotel
and meet up with Clemy and Nori for supper.”
“Ach, listen to ye, big guy. Using their first names!
Finally!” Alec laughed.
“I’ve given up trying to be official with any of you
anymore, Alexander,” Rafe said in resignation. “Let’s get
The group of three headed back out of the tunnels,
leaving shadows and silence in their wake.

About the Author

I reside in idyllic Newport, Rhode Island along with my two fur-babies.  Two incredibly precocious Chihuahuas bent on ruling the planet, and I believe they are getting close.  Oliver Winston and Victoria Alexandrina know they at least rule me.  They seem to spend their day causing trouble and making my life just a little more exciting than it already is.  I have begun to write LGBTQ+ romance, action/adventure.  As well as a smattering of paranormal romance thrown in for good measure.  I have just begun my official writing career, although I have been writing plays and scripts since I was in grammar school.  So, come along for the ride!  I promise some thrills, chills, lots of laughter and, fun, and some utterly amazing original characters.
