I follow the team into the lab clearing rooms as we go. The guys ahead of us are emptying the cages, directing the rescued paranormals out of the building. The state of some of these people is nothing short of horrific. It’s surprising that cruelty like this still exists. We clear another floor and keep moving. There’s shouting up ahead so I quicken my pace. If the guys have a fight on their hands I want to be there to help.
Turning the corner, a delicious scent tickles my nose, like burnt marshmallows and licorice. The scent of my beloved but there’s also the scent of blood. I break into a run but when I reach the spot where the scent originated there’s only an empty cage, a broken window, and a frazzled looking wolf.
“What happened here?”
The wolf sighs and says, “One of the vampires made a break for it as soon as we opened the cage, jumped right out the window.”READ MORE
A vampire? My beloved is a vampire? But how is that possible? Vampires are never paired with each other. I’m not entirely sure of the specifics of it, but I think it’s something to do with blood intake. We get our blood from others and if we feed off each other it defeats the purpose, so to speak. Or something like that.
Snapping myself out of my thoughts I look at the wolf and say, “Once we clear the building, get a team together. We’ll track the vampire that jumped. Who knows what that scientist bastard has done to make someone jump out of a window rather than receive help.”
Just hang on beloved, I’m coming for you.
Since I discovered Ezra Dawn I have purchased every book I could find. The books are wonderful, full of snarky vibrant characters. This is just as good as all the others. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer.
