The Director

by Ezra Dawn

(This is a short story! It can be read as a standalone but is part of a series)

Gideon Gray is a venomous snake shifter. Born as the first son to an Alpha pair he’s been raised to takeover when his father retires. However, being Alpha isn’t what he wants. Gideon owns a mortuary and would rather live his life working with his friends than become someone else’s puppet. His parents won’t give up easily and with every blind date and matchmaking scheme Gideon’s resolve weakens.

Ethan Tod is the Egyptian god Anubis. He’s never expected to find a fated mate. When the Fates themselves drop in on him for a visit he doesn’t say no to what they’re proposing. All it takes is a phone call and he’s leaving his homeland to find the mate he’s suddenly paired with.

These two men have a date with destiny now that Fate has intervened and nothing will stand in the way. The journey ahead won’t be all hearts and flowers but with a mating blessed by the Fates these two will be able to handle anything.

Prologue

Gideon

“You have to choose a mate. Become Alpha. It’s your duty as the oldest son!”

I swear if I hear those words come out of my parents’ mouths one more time I’m going to go apeshit and kill something or someone. I’ve had enough. The photos, the matchmaking, the blind dates. It’s wearing me down. I’m this close to saying to hell with it and just choosing someone so they’ll shut up. They don’t understand. I don’t want to be Alpha or take a bond mate just to have kids. I’m content to run the mortuary with my friends and wait for my fated mate. If kids are in the cards when I meet that person then that’s great, but if not so be it.

All I’m asking is for the chance to live my life the way I want to. Instead of being a puppet on a string. Sometimes I wish I didn’t have parents. As soon as I think it, I always feel awful but it’s where I’m at right now. Why can’t they let my younger brother take over? He’s better suited for the damn position than I am. I don’t understand. Fate, help me. Please, I’m begging you. If you’re listening, I promise to be the best mate I can be so please…help me.

Chapter One

Gideon

I’ve had it up to here with my parents. They delivered another file of mate prospects this morning. I’m so far past done when it comes to this argument I don’t even care about myself anymore. My only saving grace is my mother. My father is pushing for me to choose someone from the photos but it’s my mother who hands them to me. Each time she winks and I’ve never understood why until now. After weeks of them beating me down and me resisting I’ve finally given in. Opening the envelope, I pull out the photos and spread them out across my desk. Most of them are women. Go figure. But, as I reveal the last two photos I find that they’re men.

My dad said if I liked anyone in the pictures to flip them over and all their contact info would be written on the back. Tossing the other photos aside I pick up the two images of the men and flip them over. At the bottom of both, right below the contact information is a note written in my mother’s handwriting

Ezra Dawn has become adept at writing short stories, packed with action and romance.
The Director is no exception. The Graveyard Shift series centers around a group of paranormals working at a mortuary. Each is a stand alone with minimal interaction between the other stories.
In this book we have Gideon, who owns and runs the mortuary, and Ethan well not really but I'll call him Ethan. Gideon is under a lot of pressure from his father (who is at best a jerk) to marry, have a baby and take over as Alpha of his pod. Gideon wants to wait for his fated mate, but his parents are putting pressure on him constantly. A random picture shoved in a folder opens the door to Ethan.
A short read, and given the length one that devolpment the characters fairly well.

About the Author

Well Ezra isn't my real name obviously but I liked the name so I decided to use it. I live at home with my five dogs and one cat. I started out writing hetero romance novels but it wasn't where my heart lied. I adore all things paranormal and M/M is by far my favorite genre so I decided to start writing Paranormal Romances. There's a guaranteed happy ending with each of my books even if it may take some time for my guys to get there. I love each and every character on the page and I look forward to writing more for you. I hope you all enjoy reading them as much as I do writing them 😀
