I’ve been dreaming of him for about a year, but I don’t know why. I have no clue who he is. But when a crazed shifter captures me and starts torturing me for information about the blond-haired stranger, I start to realize that he might be the only one that can save me… and I have no clue how to reach him from the prison I’m trapped in.

I can’t get that green-eyed stranger out of my head. I’m drawn to him… I know what he is to me… but he works for the enemy, for the Ministry, so he’s off-limits. Or at least he was until my worst nightmare started using him as bait. But what can I do? I can’t let him die just because he’s connected to me. I can’t let him die just because that bastard Edward has gotten his claws into him… but what can I do to protect him?

Will Patty be able to save Kai from Edward’s clutches? Will they be able to move past their differences and come together to save not only themselves, but their loved ones as well?

Without even realizing what I was doing, I pushed Patty’s hair off the back of his neck, then ran my nose along the skin there. I seriously wanted to roll around in his pine-like scent. I brushed my lips gently across his skin without a thought, but froze when I heard his intake of air and felt goosebumps pop up. Knowing he was reacting to me made me smile, and I couldn’t help but lick his skin. He gasped again and shifted his body a little, leaning away from me an inch.

It was on the tip of my tongue to apologize, but I bit it back. There was no reason to apologize. He and I both knew he was my True Mate, and after everything we’d been through, holding in all of my instincts was unnecessary. I wanted to taste him on my tongue and surround myself with him. His scent held no fear, so there was no reason to stop what I was doing. As it was, I was holding back my wolf more than should be expected. As long as Patty was okay and comfortable, nothing else mattered. I didn’t care that the rest of his pack was in the room with us. Wolves didn’t give a shit who was around, not the way humans did. I’d seen firsthand how uncomfortable humans became around others’ intimacy, but wolves weren’t like that.

So I pulled him back to me a little and licked the back of his neck again, savoring the way he tasted. But then Patty froze and his scent changed. Immediately, I moved my head back and whispered, “What’s wrong?”

I watched his Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed and whispered, “Nothing.”

I sniffed the air, my nostrils flaring at the scent of his lie, and asked, “Why are you lying to me?”

“I’m sorry,” he whispered and folded in on himself, his scent suddenly thick with fear.

Tre’s movement across the room grabbed my attention, and when I realized he was stalking closer to my Patty, I stood up, jumping in front of my mate and growling loudly, “Don’t fucking come any closer.” The growl in my chest persisted and Tre stopped.

The alpha’s chest heaved as he ground out, “I will fucking kill you if you hurt him.”

I growled as loud as I could. How dare he. How dare he think I’d hurt Patty. How dare he threaten me.
