Parliament of Twilight: Episode One
A Yaoi Novel from Hermit & Star
This is the first installment of an on-going series that spans the genres of horror, scifi, humor, mystery, fantasy and many others with characters that run the gamut of sexuality and gender identity.
What do a TV ghost hunter, a fading Broadway icon, a CEO and his son, a bored assassin, and a whole host of other delightfully damaged and deranged characters have in common? The Parliament of Twilight binds them all from the shadows.
The men of this deliciously Yaoi-inspired world fall in and out of love nearly as much as they fall in and out of danger. Steered from the shadows by the mysterious Parliament of Twilight, they must navigate nefarious plots, romantic entanglements, and mortal peril – everything from being attacked by monsters in the highlands of India to altercations with ex-lovers in liquor stores.
**Warning: The narrative contains explicit content. Not intended for young readers or the easily offended. The books of the Parliament of Twilight series are written with the intention of portraying real, raw characters and situations. While they are not necessarily erotic novels, there are quite a few sex-laden scenes in the course of the narrative. There are elements of gore, horror, and generally disturbing imagery integrated into the stories, even in the sex scenes.**

This is the first entry in the Parliament of Twilight series, involving characters that have appeared in Hermit & Star's other works: Ghost House, Monster, and Inertia. However, the other books need not be required reading if you want to understand the characters here (though they do provide some detailed background and very hot and involved erotic scenes). The Parliament series is designed to show the interaction of the characters within the worlds of the previous novels. The book itself has several through storylines which are given in bite-sized pieces. The character who is the soul of the story, though, is former Broadway star RT Wilmot. Lover, friend, enemy, support, mentor; it seems that there are few roles that RT has not played in regard to the other main characters. The world that RT navigates is made more complex by the omnipresence of the Parliament of Twilight and its more active agents, who have taken on the manipulation of a unique supernatural world as their right. This book offers a tantalizing look at the interrelationships between beautiful, mostly male characters, their struggles with themselves, and each other. There are definitely politics at work here, but also magic, intrigue and emotions. The glimpses at the various supernatural species the characters belong to will leave you wanting to know more about how this mad, expansive world works. There are some fresh looks at magical beings found here that certainly warrant a look.
If you've read the author's description, you'll be aware that this book has adult themes. This one has erotic elements, and some violence, though nothing is played for shock value.
This is definitely a must-read for anyone who is into fantasy that includes gay characters/ yaoi fantasy. Give it a look and look forward to seeing more of an intriguing world . . . and be left wondering: "What is up with the chupacabras?"
