The temperature had dropped precipitously by the time they reached Cam's big A-frame in the foothills. Inside, Cam started a fire in the great room fireplace, while Hunt wandered.
"I'll start dinner. Let me know if you want a drink," Cam told him.
While Hunt examined shelves of books, he couldn't avoid thinking of the things Cam had done to him last Friday at the club. Things no one had ever done to him. The things Hunter needed so desperately that night.
He glanced over at Cam, behind a wide granite counter, moving with grace and confidence, whisking something. He'd turned up his shirtsleeves. The shadowed edges of muscles and veins along his arms caught the light, obvious even from thirty feet away. Strong. Sure. There.READ MORE
Hunt's body shivered with anxiety and thrilled with anticipation. In the bathroom of the big playroom, before the flogging started, Cam had taken him apart. It had never been like that for him before. Helpless against the humiliation. The pleasure. The control. The desire.
He ducked into a small alcove next to the fireplace, a sanctuary to allow his traitorous dick to calm. He found the five Gold and two Silver winter Olympic medals in an unlighted glass case.
Hunter gazed back around the great room of Cam's A-frame. It had been professionally decorated, with respect for open space and floor-to-ceiling window views. The furniture spare and masculine. But it was not a magazine layout. Boots under the edge of the couch, a pile of papers on an end table, a sweatshirt tossed on a footstool.
It was the very expensive home of a twenty-something kid who skied for a living. And Hunter was a thirty-five year-old homicide cop with a one-bedroom apartment who knew exactly who he was. And wasn't.
Once everything was on the dining table in front of the fireplace, Cam brought out a bottle of red wine.
"You're going to get hurt," Hunter said.
"Am I?" Cam asked, eyes locked on Hunter's.
A decade younger and a couple inches shorter, pouring wine into a glass, Cam still radiated an aura of power that made Hunt feel slight and hollow and needful.
"Is that why you didn't show up Saturday?" Cam asked. "Because you need men for power, use women for sex and no one for intimacy?"
"Like I told you Friday," Hunter said.
"Which is why I'm going to get hurt?"
Cam retreated to his chair and set the bottle down. A thin whistle of wind reached them from the eaves.
“Please, sit.” Cam gestured at the chair opposite. "It's a hell of an assumption that every man who fucks you is going to fall in love with you," Cam said. His mouth twitched in a gentle smirk. "But you still offered me your ass for my pleasure. Why?"
I was overwhelmed by gratitude.
Hunter shrugged. "I thought you'd do it, then. We had time. It would be part of the scene. No personal relationship involved. I should have specified."
Cam stood and walked around Hunter's chair, to stand behind him, hands on his shoulders. He bent down and ran his nose through Hunt's hair and whispered, "But you didn't, Hunter."
Cam's warm, wide palm slid down, over Hunt's chest. His mouth found the hollow place behind the clavicle.
Hunter leaned into the pressure, shifting to get more of each—the reaction atavistic, elemental. Blood rushed to his pelvis.
"I'm going to make you feel so good, Hunter. And you're going to let me."
Hunt licked his lips, his cock lengthening along his thigh inside his slacks.
"Is that an order?" His voice hoarse.
"A prediction." He felt Cam's lips curve against his skin. "Orders come later."

It Would Take a Wind Tunnel To Cool Me Off Right Now
Brows furrowed, my mouth drops open to speak … aaand snaps closed. Drops open … still got nothin’ … snaps closed. Rinse and repeat. I am speechless at how incomprehensibly white-hot these guys were together. If you think an author mentioning D/s play in a blurb or calling a spanking ‘BDSM’ is actually a good representation of BDSM, then you haven’t read this book or its prequel. HO-LY SHIT, this book is sizzling, scorching, walking on the sun hot! ...
... Food for the brain and the libido. I, for one, appreciate that I got to read a fascinating story with ... enigmatic and intriguing characters, freaking insanely wicked sex, a little murder and mayhem, some mystery and suspense, and an intense desire to find out what happens next.
I highly recommend this book to anyone in want of a really good story that will give you braingasms and orgasms. Of course, getting my greedy little eyes on some more hotter-than-hell scenes between Cam and Dane is … well, it’s essential. Sign me up for the next one right now.

I don’t even know where to start with Adira August’s Matchstick Men. Cam and Hunter’s introduction in On His Knees was an unexpected fantastic treasure to stumble upon and I could only hope there would be a follow-up to their powerful coupling.
Matchstick Men exceeds all my expectations!
You don’t have to read On His Knees to continue with Matchstick Men but in all honesty if you do not you are doing yourself a disservice to truly appreciate the vivacious dynamic of these two compelling men! ...
Right from the beginning the set-up for this thriller is great and the mystery unfolds intricately yet quickly. ...
... Adira gives you all sorts of suspects to ponder making you think you know who the killer is and suddenly changing course in the next thought.
But all of the suspense is designed to be an engaging backdrop to the real story, which is giving the reader the opportunity to see Cam and Hunt truly to get to know each other and develop their D/s dynamic. ...
A 12 year age difference separates Cam and Hunt, as August relays, “A decade younger and a couple inches shorter…Cam still radiated an aura of power that made Hunt feel slight and hollow and needful.” The two men couldn’t be more different and yet they are perfect for one another.
Cam is an all-encompassing figure and yet at the same time vulnerable which is what endears you to him. I enjoy seeing Cam’s dominance while being shown his internal thoughts of pleasing Hunt, and at the same time being made to understand how he derives his own pleasure. ...
And the way Cam fuels Hunts desire and need for him is so profound. As Adira narrates, “The raw need in Cam’s voice made a savage joy bloom in Hunter’s chest. His body relaxed in full submission.”
I appreciate how the author develops the Dom, it’s in his very nature (down to his posture), and yet she does not shy away from letting the vulnerable 23 year old young man shine through at times while showcasing the immense respect his sub still carries for him in those moments. ...
Hunt thinks he doesn’t develop emotional attachments and yet Cam knows better ... “’You knelt for me last Friday because of what you feel. You needed those demons exorcised before they ate you alive. You are possessed by feelings, Hunter.’”
And this really is the power of their connection. They know ... just what to say and do, at just the right time - in, and out, of bed…or a car…or…. Cam brings it out of Hunt in the most exquisitely delicious ways ...
... when Hunt goes to his knees for Cam you can feel it. Actually feel his need, his desire to give to Cam. Not only for Cam, but truly for himself!
“That Cam was able to create this in Hunter, this agony of desire and doubt, wanting to please, desperate to escape, drove Cam to a savage need to be inside that molten body feeling the tight quivering of humiliation and hunger and surrender.”
Don’t get me wrong the murder plot in this book is fantastic and will keep you engaged and intrigued all along, but this truly is a depiction of a beautiful D/s coupling ...

Overall Impression: I loved it!
Review: Hunter is a homicide detective who ... doms most of the time (with women), but he subs for men when he needs particular things. Up until recently, he has never truly submitted to anyone, but that all changed the day he gave his all and went to his knees for Cam (in On His Knees). ...
Cam, on the other hand, is all Dom. ...
... These guys have some crazy chemistry going on, and while they definitely have a d/s relationship, it is anything but typical. These guys have shared some of the hottest scenes I’ve read in a long time. ... These are complex men that, while they both might not see it yet, are intricate puzzle pieces that just fit together perfectly. ...
There are a few other things at play here, from the title and how it correlates to the story, to the murder and how it is connected to Hunter and the club. As Hunter tries to figure things out, he uses Cam as a sounding board.
... I can’t wait for their story to continue and hope we don’t have to wait too long. Highly recommend.
