Forced to go into witness protection, ATF Special Agent Thayne Wolfe, is less than thrilled. The State’s Attorney needs him to testify against one of the most ruthless and notorious arms dealers in the world. Expecting boredom and lots of daytime television, he instead ends up with a ridiculous new job, a stupid new name, and the world’s most annoying shadow. Jarrett Evans, is nevertheless tasked with keeping Wolfe alive long enough to put Mills Lang and his crew away for the rest of their miserable lives.
Jarrett Evans, former Marine, has always been a free spirit, doing the dirty work for Uncle Sam whenever and wherever he’s needed. One of the best snipers in the world, Evans is at peace with the man he’s become. That doesn’t mean he’s ever liked the cold-blooded killer who stares back at him from the mirror every day. The moment he meets pretty boy Thayne Wolfe, things start a slow change and redemption begins to sound possible.
Mills Lang, the world’s most ruthless arms dealer, is little more than a serial killer in his own right. Rotting away in prison with nothing but time on his hands, Lang is determined to destroy the man he allowed into his inner circle. Thayne Wolfe will die in the most painful way… along with anyone he loves.

“Does this fucking place have condoms and lube?” he asked. Thayne’s expression was intensely focused on the task at hand.
Jarrett stared at him for a second and then smirked. “There’s some in my bag. Let me up.”
Thayne rolled off of him and Jarrett stood up, getting off the bed as Thayne flopped to his back in the warm spot where he’d been. He walked out into the front room and dug through his duffel before coming up with the requested supplies. When he walked back into the room, the sight that met his eyes made lust pound through him all over again. Thayne was lying back on the rumpled bed cover, his legs spread, one hand on his cock, pumping slowly. The other was rolling his balls. His mouth was open, the way it was when Jarrett had observed him in the shower that first week, jacking off and coming all over the tile.
“Hurry up, Evans,” Thayne hissed.READ MORE
Jarrett grinned in spite of himself, and he walked over to the bed, tossing the torn box of condoms and lube onto it before climbing on. His own cock was so hard, the urge to straddle Thayne and jack off over his cut abs was nearly overwhelming. He’d fantasized about it more than once actually. Jarrett had realized that most of his fantasies over the last month had featured Thayne Wolfe even though he’d done his best to push them away and visualize someone else’s face when he came. Fuck. After this, I’ll never be able to get him out of my head. He crawled over to Thayne as the man watched him intently, and then reached for a condom, drawing one out of the box. He held it up by a corner and swung it back and forth.
“You got a preference?” Jarrett asked, honestly.
Thayne’s brows drew together and he looked at Jarrett, appraising him for a few seconds before letting out a sigh. “I’m not a good bottom,” he finally said.
Jarrett grinned, tearing open the condom with his teeth as he stared at Thayne. “Practice makes perfect,” he said as he proceeded to roll the condom onto his own cock. When he met Thayne’s gaze again, he could see the barely banked fire blazing in the man’s bright blue eyes.
“Fuck you, man,” Thayne quipped with a roll of his eyes.
Jarrett barked a laugh and then made a twirling motion with his finger in the air. “Roll over onto all fours. It won’t hurt as much.”
Thayne snorted and then proceeded to do as Jarrett requested, rolling over and getting up on his hands and knees. Jarrett knew if he’d refused, he would have eventually relented but not until he’d pushed his buttons a little more first. There was something beyond satisfying about annoying Thayne and over the last week, when they hadn’t been talking or interacting much, he’d missed it more than he would have thought possible.
Thayne’s back was as impressive as his front. His gorgeous body rippled with lean muscle but his ass should have been in a museum. Jarrett moved in close, insinuating himself between Thayne’s knees and spreading them wider as he got near enough to touch. The skin of Thayne’s ass was smooth and soft and as Jarrett grasped it with both hands, he couldn’t help but squeeze. Thayne looked back at him over his shoulder and frowned.
“Get on with it, Evans. They’re not melons,” he growled.
Jarrett chuckled, letting go and then reached for the lube, scooping it off the bed and squeezing a dollop onto his fingers.COLLAPSE
Thayne Wolfe witnessed a murder and is the key witness to putting the murderer behind bars, but since the ATF agent spent two years undercover in the arms dealing killer’s proximity, he needs extra protection from the kill order placed on him. Refusing to enter WITSEC, his boss places Thayne in the care of one Jarrett Evans, a man who has entirely too much sex appeal for Thayne’s well-being. Back undercover - of a sorts - with Jarrett at his side, Thayne just needs to bide the three months it’ll take for the prosecution to be ready to go to trial. But with a hitman who knows how Jarrett works, will Jarrett alone be enough to ensure Thayne’s safety?
This was a wild ride! Ms. Logan is brilliantly vivid in her descriptions, and it is easy to fall into the storyline and walk alongside her characters! The main characters are charismatic and snarky, qualities I always enjoy in my books, and the way they feed off one another from start to finish makes for a lot of fun and witty dialogue. The chemistry between the two is off the charts, though they don’t actually do anything about it until halfway through the book, creating a slow burn build that is as effective as catnip on me.
The peripheral characters are mainly composed of a few good guys with small but recurrent parts and one pair of hysterical characters in Jarrett and Thayne’s undercover job. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the two men deflecting advances and doing their level best to deal with Enrique and Dewan, and you’ll need to read the book to find out who they are and what they do!
Ms. Logan has also taken the opportunity to really reveal the bad guys by creating entire scenes throughout the book that clearly define how they are going to proceed as well as their mindsets. I enjoyed having that dual perspective rather than that the more standard ‘bad guys are bad’ and ignoring them otherwise. The fear written into the defense attorney is palpable in her every encounter with the killer, and it underscores the danger he presents to the world at large.
There is a clear “gunfight at the OK Corral” buildup throughout the book as Jarrett and Thayne avoid the mercenary, but the actual encounter surprised me as it went in a way I did not see coming - at all! I finished the book and immediately began grousing that book two has been released as of this review's date.
I need more of these two, and I look forward to Flash and Bang. This is five stars of excellence!
