A Single Heartbeat

by Morgan Elektra

Nature made them adversaries, but one glance ignites a lust stronger than the need for blood.

After 200 years, the nightlife has lost its allure for Reese. A leader among his kind, owner of a nightclub that serves as a banquet of nubile flesh and hot blood, he is bored out of his mind.

His heart hasn't stirred in over a century.

Born to a line of vampire hunters, Will ventures out every day after dark to track down those creatures who have crossed the line from feeding to murder, and destroy them.

All he wants is one night off to drink and dance and maybe get laid.

Too bad it's not his lucky night. Or maybe it is?

Not even witnessing Will stake one of his brethren is enough to quell the lust that Reese feels from his first glimpse of the gorgeous hunter. And though Will knows how dangerous it could be to take the sensual invitation in Reese's dark eyes, he can't resist.

Why fight when they could fuck instead?

Someone’s eyes were on him, caressing his body like a sensual touch. Will let that feeling fill him as he twisted and swayed to the throbbing music. His skin tingled and heated, but he didn’t open his eyes, didn’t seek out that velvet gaze.

Not yet.

Every gyration seemed to shake off another layer of tension and exhaustion. The heat and press of so many bodies made him feel less alone. He basked in that, sweat prickling at this temples and trickling down his throat.

He let it all build inside him, thrumming in his blood and brain and gut. His cock thickened in his pants, pressing against the zipper.

When he couldn’t stand it anymore, Will opened his eyes.

He didn’t have to search the crowd for even a second. As soon as he lifted his lids, he saw him. Half in shadow, his voyeur leaned against a wide column, arms crossed over his chest. His black suit was perfectly tailored to his long, lean body. The crisp, blue shirt underneath complemented the ebony hair and porcelain skin. He looked expensive and elegant, despite the scruff of stubble on his cheeks and chin.

But it was the look in his dark eyes that went right to the base of Will’s spine like a bolt of lightning.

It was feral and hungry and needy. Dangerous.

Just Will’s type.

One of the things I love about books in the supernatural genre is that you get to suspend your disbelief and just go with whatever the author throws at you.

Reese is a vampire who’s grown bored with the immortal life he’s been living. Nothing seems to catch his interest anymore.

Will is a hunter who’s incredibly hot and always ready to do his job, although he really would love a night off to have some fun.

When these two men meet, there’s more than just sparks flying…there’s fireworks.

Once they establish who they are, the danger for both of them should keep them at arm’s length, but it just makes the want burn hotter.

I loved the chat between the two main characters and their friends at the beginning of the story. It sets us up for what’s to come. The author does a great job with the snappy dialogue that helps build the sexual tension to a frenzied peak.

And the sex? So damn hot that my computer was in danger of overheating (so was I). For such a short story, it certainly delivered big time.

Looking for something hot that will also make you smile? Then this is the story for you. I’m usually left wanting something more with a story this short, but while I could read a whole lot more about Will and Reese, it’s one of the few times that a short story didn’t leave me feeling cheated.

This short story was a good quick read. Who said natural born enemies cannot burn up the sheets with some hot sweaty sex?

Well in this book that is exactly what happens. Reese is a vampire and has been for quite a while and the whole feeding frenzy just does not hold the appeal that it used to hold to him but some things have to be done just to survive.

Will is a vampire hunter but he learned a long time ago that just because they are a vampire it does not mean that they are bad. So when he meets Reese and the attraction between them is immense he decides to go for it. Reese may be a vampire but he can tell that his only intentions is to have amazing sex and feed from him but not harm him and Eill wants this for the first time ever.

These two men may be born enemies but I do not believe they read the memo. They burn up the sheets in this book so much so that I thought my kindle may just explode. The only thing I could say negatively about this book is that I wish it was longer because this was a really good story and I bet it could be an amazing novel. The chemistry between these two is off the charts.

I really enjoyed this read, it was a great short story.

Sexy and Exhilarating with an underlying edginess that keeps the reader on alert with anticipation.

Fight or Fuck? What will they do?

Reece—a 200-year-old vampire—is bored with his existence. He’s powerful and the co-owner of the hottest night club in the city. As of late, no one gets his heartbeat going. Until. . .he sees Will on the dance floor.

Will and his friends hit the club for a night of fun. Will works a lot and hasn’t been out for a while but he is looking for someone specific. Will is a little mysterious, too.

His friends don’t know the truth of why he’s armed—they assume he’s a bounty hunter—and he allows them to believe by not going into detail. He lives a dangerous life by tracking down creatures of the night, so you would think he would want to steer clear of them in his free time, but he’s drawn to them even more. He craves the dark and mysterious male.

When these two come face to face—it is nerve wracking in the best of ways—a little fear. . .maybe of the unknown—but the sexual heat is skyrocketing and even though Will knows the danger the vampire possesses—he wants what he has to offer.

A Single Heartbeat is a novella—just shy of fifty pages—but it is non-stop thrilling and sexy action from start to finish. Morgan Elektra sucked me in with her descriptive narrative and erotic content and I would LOVE to see more of Reese and Will.

However, if we see no more of them, I thought the ending was absolutely perfect. It’s not often I can say that with such a short story. Highly recommended for an afternoon—or nighttime—of extreme reading pleasure.
