About The Book

Twenty-one-year-old Noah Jeffries has a secret. He’s putting himself through college under the rent boy name Max Wilde. He doesn’t mind the sex, most of the time, and he sure doesn’t mind the money. But when he falls hard for Carlos, a hot student activist, he’s clobbered by a tough decision. Can he give up making big money for a chance for love? Will Carlos even want to be with him if he knows his secret?

Meanwhile, being Max Wilde is getting complicated. A high paying client who’s the provost of Noah’s university wants Noah all for himself. There’s danger as the guy gets more obsessive, and now it could spill out and impact Carlos as well.

The first title in Romeo Preminger’s Guilty Pleasures series of erotic thrillers.

The Review

Oh, the hubris of youth! Preminger captures it so well in this book.

Noah is a business major with a plan. He’s making money as a call boy to pay tuition so that he’ll graduate without debt. He’s laundering the money through his sham painting business that he and his mentor call boy have set up. What possibly could go wrong?

Sure, there are a number of contingencies that Noah hasn’t considered like love, obsession, and getting caught. But, hey, those things couldn’t happen to him, could they?

Into Noah’s life walk both an older man named Philip who offers him a lot of money for an exclusive sexual relationship which includes overnight stays and a fellow student named Carlos, with whom Noah falls in love. The key as Noah keeps telling himself and readers over and over again is compartmentalizing his life. The better he is at that, the easier his life will be. And Noah almost believes himself.

Unfortunately, Philip, the older man, is Provost at Noah’s college. When Noah runs into him on campus, the gig is up. Both Noah and the reader can see his blithely compartmentalized life imploding. He sees two big problems: For one, not only does Philip know Noah’s a student and his real name, but two, Carlos, Noah’s campus boyfriend and love of his life, will have to be told what Noah does when they’re not together.

Preminger easily segues from Noah’s rose-colored self-illusion to his contingency plans that seem to fall quicker than they can rise. His juggling act between a scared and desperate Philip and an angry and betrayed Carlos seems doomed to failure.

Since this is a romantic caper of sorts, love conquers all—or will if no one gets killed.

If you’re looking for a fast-paced, often cleverly funny quick read, this book is perfect.
